School Values

One of our school’s core values is Friendliness. We encourage and teach our students to show Friendliness towards others even if they are not ‘friends.’

I asked a group of students how they show this value and this is what they said:

  • ‘Inviting others to join a game if  they don’t have anyone to play with.’
  • ‘If someone gets hurt you help them up.’
  • ‘If you see someone is sad you can ask them what is wrong.’
  • ‘If someone is holding a bunch of stuff and they are starting to drop them you can offer to help carry them.’
  • ‘Don’t talk or whisper about people and make it so they know, this hurts people’s feelings and makes them feel bad.’
  • ‘If someone doesn’t have a group you can invite them to join in your group.’

Many of our children are very aware of how to show Friendliness but may be at different stages with this being an automatic behaviour that they display.

We acknowledge and highlight when our students are doing the right thing, showing our value of Friendliness and we provide them with positive feedback.

We ask that our parent community also show our value of Friendliness in their interactions with each other and our staff.  We cannot know what is going on in other people’s lives, but the act of showing Friendliness can go a long way in making a difference to someone’s day!

Songlines Music Project

Our School has been successful in being one of the schools selected to participate in an exciting Musical opportunity run by the Adelaide Festival Centre, which will have students explore song writing to support Reconciliation and understanding of First Nations’ cultures and perspectives.

Ms Hay, Ms Woods and Mrs Jolley/Mrs Martin’s classes will work with talented musician songwriter and singer Barkindji woman Nancy Bates with the support of teaching artist mentee – Katie Aspel – a proud Ngarrinderi artist from Raukkan.

During these song writing workshops students will write sections of a song and then participate in a group performance which will be filmed by a professional film crew at the end of the day! We are excited to have our students have the opportunity to participate in such a wonderful experience.

Information and consent forms will be sent home to the children involved. It is important to sign the consent form if you would like your child to participate in this exciting opportunity.

Inappropriate Games At School

Due to a recent and popular Netflix program (Squid Games) which has a Mature Audiences rating we have had to talk to classes about not playing these games at school due to the violent acts in the TV program that have been re-enacted at school. Just as we teach our children to be road safe and to be safe in crowds etc it is also important to teach them to be safe with online content and TV Shows when other children may be sharing things that your child has not had access to. This will not be the last time some children are exposed to programs of a violent nature so this is a good time to be reminded of some tips for talking with your child about these types of programs and content.

  • What can you do if some of your friends are playing inappropriate or violent games that you feel I might not want you to play to keep you safe?
  • If one of your friends was playing a (violent) game that you know is not appropriate what could you do to try to help them?

If your child has heard others talking about this and other Mature Audience TV shows it is important that you talk with them about why it is an inappropriate show for children to be watching due to the high levels of violence and that it is not OK for children to engage in certain behaviours that they see in TV shows or movies.

As always it is important that families are monitoring what children are viewing and accessing online and to ensure they are age appropriate.
