Reminders:

Specialist Timetable

As of Monday 1st November, our usual Specialist timetable will resume. Please see below for your child’s relevant Specialist days. A reminder that students must wear full sports uniform on their PE day.

Uniform

As we are now in Term 4, all students are required to wear a wide-brimmed hat when outside. They must wear the SMPS School Hat with the logo as below. Please ensure all hats are labelled with your child’s name and class.

We have also been impressed with how smart our students are looking on their return to onsite learning. A reminder to refer to the uniform policy to ensure these standards are maintained. A note of particular importance is the need to wear either all summer or all winter academic uniform, and not a combination of both (i.e. summer dresses must be worn with navy socks and not tights).

Home Readers

Thank you to all families who have returned their home readers. If you have not done so, please return them to school as soon as possible so we can complete an audit of the Prep Library.

Wushka

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, we are unable to loan books from our class library for home reading. To ensure students can continue to practise their reading at home, we are trialling an online library for a few weeks called Wushka which can be found on https://wushka.com.au/login/. Please see Seesaw under the ‘Goals’ folder for your child’s username and password. Now that we are back onsite, students should continue to read aloud at home at least 4 times a week. This is vital in supporting the development of their reading skills. Please email your child’s class teacher if you have any issues accessing Wushka.

Seesaw

As we return to site full-time, we ask that families still check Seesaw Family for positive news and fortnightly feedback on their child’s learning. Students will continue to access Seesaw Class at school for small group work.

Reminders

Homework

Now that we return to on-site learning, regular homework starts up again. Your child will not have time to complete this during class - it must be done at home. Please ensure that your child completes their Mathletics and shows you their 200 (minimum) to 1000 (maximum) points. We recommend doing this on Monday afternoons. We also ask that you sign your child's diary for 4 nights in the week once they have read for 20 minutes.

We have seen amazing results in both academics and work habits in Grades 5 and 6 this year. Students completing their homework certainly have a head start on revising content and moving it into their long term memory, along with building solid work habits for high school.

Personal hygiene

Our students sure have grown over the remote learning period! As they get used to being back on-site and all the active elements that come with this, we are reminding students to embed good personal hygiene habits including wearing deodorant, bathing daily and wearing clean clothes. We have been impressed with how maturely students have approached these discussions. We would appreciate your support in reinforcing these messages at home.
