Sports Academy News

The Heathmont Sports Academy hosted basketball games for the first time ever in our new Sports Stadium. We played 2 games versus Salesian College in both Intermediate and Junior Boys.

Salesian College performed quite well in the recent Champions Cup competition run by Basketball Victoria and both of their sides advanced to the Elite 8 round. The Elite 8 round will determine the top school to represent Victoria in the National High Schools Basketball Competition.

Our Junior Boys surprised Salesian College from the start of the game until the final siren. Our boys jumped out to a 20-point lead and never looked back! We proved to be too strong for Salesian and had a convincing win in the end.

The Intermediate Boys did not fare as well as the junior boys due to a lack of height compared to Salesian College. However, our boys played, and inspiring game led by Wyatt Hayward who had our crowd in a frenzy with his 3-point shooting!

We also took a trip to LaTrobe University to compete in a Sports Academy competition with Mount Ridley College. This was round 2 between the schools.

Our partnership with Mount Ridley is competing in different sports for a Trophy Shield and bragging rights. In Round 1 we competed in Mixed Girls Footy, Intermediate Boys Footy & Basketball, and Junior Boys Footy & Basketball. The result of round 1 was 3 points apiece.

We were successful winning Girls Footy, Intermediate Boys Footy, and Junior Boys Basketball. Given our results we were pretty confident going into the return matches.

Round 2 results did not favour us this time around and we lost the shield 7pts to 5pts. Although our Girls Footy and Junior Boys Basketball repeated winning their matches, our Girls Basketball lost a close thriller by 2 points, and our Intermediate Boys Basketball lost by 3 points. Unfortunately, our Intermediate Boys Footy and Junior Boys Footy did not win either.

The Sports Academy will be hosting and playing more matches in Term 4 and building relationships with other schools and academies, which will help our academy grow through competition.
