FATHERS DAY BREAKFAST

A big thank you to Parent Association members, Mr. Chris Morris and Ms. Anna Skeels who were instrumental in the organisation of the day.

I am sure your daughters were most appreciative of the special time they were able to spend with their dads and in some cases, their grandfathers, during the morning.

MRC

We had a very successful week celebrating Book Week in the MRC.  All our activities were well attended and the enthusiasm for all things reading and books were fantastic.  The Daily Quiz was well fought out with 7 Blue winning on three occasions, 11 Red and 7 Silver, the other winners.  The art activities produced some amazing creations especially the book folding, origami and illustrated birds.  The Book Sale and “Read In” were lots of fun.

We have also included the winners of the Book of the Year as announced by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.  All worthy winners.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Work Experience Week for all Year 10 Students is held during the last week of this term (12-16 September). All students will be on placement unless prior arrangements have been made. Teachers will be visiting Year 10s during this particular week to check their progress. If you have any concerns or feedback during placement please ensure you contact the College.

A speaker from the Young Workers Centre presented at the Year 10 Wellbeing Session on 1 September. Relevant information relating to students’ safety and workplace rights, as well as appropriate preparation for placement was provided.

We wish our students well as they develop more confidence, discovering and enhancing their unique talents and abilities.  We hope they enjoy a meaningful week as they glimpse the working world.

In August I was lucky enough to spend a week at the Southbank Police Station. Having such a rare opportunity to see the inside operations of a police station has really opened my eyes to how much effort the police spend trying to protect others and making lives better. I also spent a day at the Victoria Police Academy in Glen Waverley, where I attended a class on media training and looked around the facilities. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and after this amazing experience I can’t wait to join Victoria Police in the future. Violet Cowie Yr 10

I was selected to complete my work experience with Western Health through an application process. I recently completed my work experience at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital. I had exposure to Paediatric Outpatient Clinics, Women’s Maternity Clinic alongside experienced Midwives, Sonography, Allied Health observations including Physiotherapists. I worked alongside Obstetricians and Student Doctors gaining insight into their journey towards their current roles.

The highlight of my time was to observe the operation of an acute healthcare environment and observe the everyday challenges of a Healthcare Worker. Work Experience has opened several windows into my possible future career and I think it is highly beneficial for the career making process. Sienna Donnelly Yr 10
