Infants

K/1 Class

K/1 class are all very busily preparing for our dance on Thursday night. We will be performing ‘The Goldfish Song’ and the students have all helped paint and decorate props as well as making parts of their costumes.

The most exciting part so far has been getting to rehearse on stage and practising coming on and off the stage with the big black curtains! And practising being an audience and watching some other classes with their rehearsals – we’ve been impressed by them all! We all can’t wait to show off our singing and dancing and having fun on Thursday night!

Year 2/3 have been busy rehearsing their dance to 'The Pink Panther Remix'. Will they find the pink panther in time? They have also been working hard to learn the lyrics to Bruno Mars' song 'Count on me' and play the Boom Whackers as well. It's tricky to do these two things at the same time but the students sound fantastic.

In between rehearsals, Year 2/3 have been brushing up on their time telling skills and working on accurately measuring the length of various objects in mathematics. In literacy, they have been exploring new vocabulary to use in their narrative writing.

During PDH, the students participated in a bonding activity to form and strengthen relationships within the class group. Each student wrote their name on a piece of paper, and they passed the paper around so everyone in the class had a chance to write something kind on each person's paper. At the end, each person in the class had a piece of paper full of positive and kind words about them. The smiles at the end of the session were proof of success.

Primary

We have had a HUGE few weeks in the Primary classrooms. Lots of preparation for SMArt and Drama Night which has included visual arts, music, dance and drama...not to mention costume design! We have worked so hard at our performances, now it's time to enjoy the success of the night and the dress rehearsal.

A few weeks ago, we sent out a note of 'Commitment To Participate' in the Dubbo Excursion in November. Most notes are back, and I need to finalise numbers - this is the last chance to let us know your child is planning to attend, we can't amend the bookings after this term.

All Primary students are being reminded daily of our behavioural expectations both inside and outside the classroom. Currently, we are seeing a few students choosing to be unkind to each other and to teachers - all students have been reminded that poor behaviour results in consequences, and our staff will be vigilant in following these up. Behavioural incidents that are of a significant nature are reported to parents, please support us to ensure all children have a strong understanding of behavioural expectations. A school that aspires to high expectations of respect, responsibility and participation is the best place for your children to be happy and to learn.

4/5 Class

The 4/5 classroom has been a busy place getting ready for our SMArt and Drama Night performance. We have been making props, learning lines, and discussing different elements of drama and art. I am proud to say all the 4/5 students have a significant role to play in our performance. We haven't let all this practise stop us from learning though. We have just finished a unit of work on informative writing and have improved our ability to write complex sentences using adverbial and adjectival clauses. We continued to build our stamina as readers and are enjoying reading groups with Mrs Harpley. Reading groups are quickly becoming one of my favourite times of the week. In mathematics, we tackled the tough topic of fractions, decimals, and percentages. The kids have done so well, and some students have even started to complete year 6 tasks. This fortnight we are looking at angles, 2D shapes and time. As always, I encourage the kids to practise their times tables and read aloud to someone at home. I can't believe it is already Week 8! Time flies when you are having fun and learning along the way.

5/6 Classroom

The 5/6 classroom have written Role Model Award speeches over the past fortnight. Lots of different Boorowa Community Members (Boorowa Celebrities) were included in our student's list of role models. We had sports coaches, grandparents, parents, cousins, brothers, sisters, current students at Boorowa Central School and many more examples of role models. The speeches were fantastic, and I urge you to ask your child who they wrote about - it may even be you! The speeches can be access by your child at home on their Google Classroom account.

5/6 also took part in a Merit Celebration last week which meant the students voted on having an added 30 minutes of free play outside. This was an immense success in the sunshine - with the oval and basketball courts being extremely popular. We aim for greatness in our classroom, both in learning and respect - so we must celebrate when we can!

Thank you for your ongoing support of SMArt and Drama Night. Remember this time next year, it would be great to have as many students performing acts as possible. Creative arts are a terrific way for kids to build confidence and enjoy themselves at school - let's embrace it!
