Principal's message
Dear Parents/Carers,
We're in full preparation mode for an exciting week next week.
BOOK WEEK Monday 22nd to Friday 26th August
Book week is always a great celebration in Primary Schools and next week at Warrnambool Primary School will be no exception. This years theme is Dreaming with Eyes Open.
As part of the celebrations the following activities and events will be happening throughout the week.
Principal Read Aloud Lucky Draw
Each morning there will be a Lucky Draw to see which class our principal/s Peter Lee and Danielle Toone will read a story too each day.
Library
The library will be open for quiet reading each lunchtime.
D.E.A.R – Drop Everything And Read
Each class will allocate 10 min to read for enjoyment.
Classroom/Year level read alouds
Students will read as many of the Children's Book Council of Australia shortlisted books as possible throughout the week. The students will read for enjoyment and rate each book that they have read. These are the shortlisted books for Book Week https://cbca.org.au/shortlist-2022
Book Character Parade - Tuesday 23rd August at 10.15am in the school gym
This will be the highlight of the week so please promote the parade and the book character dress up theme with your children. Think about some of the things you might have at home that your children can wear as costumes. We look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with, even staff will be dressing up.
Parents/Carers are welcome to attend however we ask if you are unwell please don't attend. We also respectfully ask that you also wear a facemask.
Favourite books
We're encouraging students to bring along their favourite book/s to school to share with classmates during D.E.A.R time each day.
Teachers will also bring along their favourite childhood book/s, or share stories or characters from favourite books that were read to you at school.
Mindful 'Dreaming with Eyes Open' Colouring competition
Students will participate in a colouring competition during the week to encourage mindfulness.
School Disco - Friday 26th August – Prep-2 6pm to 7pm; Years 3 to 6 7:30 to 9pm in the Gym
This event culminates a week of celebration, fun, and enjoyment!
Book week is a celebration of all things reading and books! So please take some time to enjoy the week with your children.
ASSEMBLY
We feel like we are coming out of the worst of the Covid/ Flu wave but of course we have no control over that.
To be on the safe side we will hold off on assembly this Friday and hope to resume and enjoy our whole school get togethers next week during Book Week.
Positive People and Specialist awards will be presented in classes this week.
JAMO JUNIORS
The exciting Jamo Juniors program is commencing on the 31st August. This program assists with the transition for our Prep Students starting in 2023, and involves 4 sessions across Terms 3 and 4. Information will be sent to families who have already enrolled their children.
If you are yet to enrol your child and are thinking of sending them to Warrnambool Primary next year, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible so they can be a part of this wonderful program.
LUNCH ORDERS - COMING SOON
Lunch orders are not too far away. We're still fine tuning a few details but hopeful they will be up and ready in the next couple of weeks. As soon as we are open for orders we will let you know.
