CELEBRATING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE@CSPS

Foundation News

Term 3 was a rollercoaster of events for our Foundation students: they took part in their first concert and were absolute superstars, they had a fantastic fortnight of swimming lessons at Casey Race, dressed up as their favourite Mr Men, Little Miss or Little Person character, met everybody's favourite giraffe, Harold (from the Life Ed Van) and rounded off the term celebrating Grand Final Day wearing their team colours and cheering on their friends at the Footy Parade.

Another highlight of Term 3 was our inquiry project about animals, their habitats and how they survive which culminated in the students creating some amazing dioramas. This term we will be working hard to improve our skills in phonics, reading, writing and mathematics as well as developing our creativity skills and imaginations through our guided inquiry activities.

Please keep looking on Seesaw to see all the students’ great work and check into Compass to see how much progress they have made in their Learning Tasks.

Creative Construction in Year 2

The Year 1s and 2s are focusing on creativity this term for Guided Inquiry and are enjoying a variety of fairytale related activities; watching, listening, writing and building.

In Week 3, our focus fairytale was The Three Little Pigs and one of our activities was to build a model house that was able to withstand a gust of wind like the Big Bad Wolf huffing and puffing.

Year 2 students first planned their model, listing the materials they required, before starting to build. There was a diverse range of materials and construction techniques applied but who’s house would be able to stay put when the Big Bad Wolf came knocking?

A wild rumour was spread (by us) that Mr Corcoran and his leaf blower would be playing the part of the Big Bad Wolf, however, we really thought that this would be too much for the houses so instead we opted for a hairdryer.

A surprisingly large number of houses did not budge an inch when inflicted with the wrath of the hairdryer!

And then came the request from the students…Can we get Mr Corcoran and the leaf blower please?

As always, Mr Corcoran went out of his way to oblige and any student who wanted to pit their house against him and his leaf blower was invited to line it up at the playground. The result was similar to watching TV footage of central Texas after a tornado! However, two houses remained completely intact after the devastation of the leaf blower, despite being blown away.  After much deliberation it was announced that the runner up prize would be awarded to Jackie whilst Parker and Archer would be crowned the winners of this challenge.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone is looking forward to the next challenge…
