3D Printing Technology

At the end of March when Covid-19 started to pose a major threat in Australia, the Maker Community put a call out to help deal with the shortage of PPE for hospital staff. They asked for any available 3D printers to assist in printing headbands for face shields. The details were for headbands to be 3D printed, with the face cover being an A4 laminated sheet and an elastic band at the back. With the hard work of myself and the Technology team (Mr Garth, Mr Croke, Mr Ali and Mr Matzke), we were able to set up the 3D printers in the Innovation Centre and began working to design and 3D print these headbands to send them off to be sanitised and assembled before being distributed to hospitals. Over the three weeks we have managed to create over 150 sets which have made their way to hospitals in need. We are so thankful to be able to put the Makerspace in action and help the community through this difficult time. - Mr Matthew Tempone
