Rotary Interact Leadership Sustainability (RILS) Program

We are looking for students with leadership skills and an interest in sustainability to be a part of the Rotary Interact Leadership for Sustainability Program (RILS), which is running in Term 2 and 3. The program is for 1hour per fortnight with Rotary here at the school. It is intended that there will be a full day sustainability excursion component facilitated by Morwell Technical College and it is also planned to run a 5 day outward bound camp, which fundraising can be done to ensure all students are able to pay for and attend the camp. Students need to have an interest in leadership and community and sustainability.

If interested please contact Mr Cox or Mrs Stewart.

Outdoor Education

Its been a busy start to the year for the Outdoor and Environmental Studies team. Our Year 10 students have been out to Lake Narracan learning how to canoe ready for their upcoming camp.

We have also seen our Year 11 students attend a surf camp to Philip Island. Whilst away they got to see how surf boards are made, watch the penguins come in from the sea, but most importantly enjoyed learning how to surf.

Chinese Delegation Visit

Lowanna College hosted a recent Chinese Delegation from China. They toured the school and were very impressed with the curriculum,  students, staff and facilities at Lowanna.

Students to Live and Learn in Indonesia

Lowanna College is one of 13 schools across Victoria selected to travel to Indonesia for an immersion experience that will prepare our students to live and work in another culture which will broaden their international perspective, thus equipping them to become future leaders on a global scale.

The inaugural Victorian Young Leaders to Indonesia Program will give four Year 9 Indonesian language student sand accompanying teacher the opportunity to travel to Indonesia for six weeks in 2019.

The pilot program provides a unique opportunity for these Year 9 students to gain a deeper understanding of Indonesia, our closest Asian neighbour and one of our most important strategic partners.

Students taking part in the program will experience Indonesian culture by attending a local school, visiting historical attractions and developing their Indonesian language skills. The program will also develop students’ intercultural understanding and leadership skills and provide opportunities to form life-long friendships with their Indonesian peers.

The program is a key pillar of the 2017 Memorandum of Understanding between Premier Daniel Andrews and the Sultan of Yogyakarta, His Excellency Hamengku Buwono X, to further strengthen the growing ties between Victoria and Indonesia.

The schools chosen to take part in the pilot program are: Bellarine Secondary College, Belmont High School, Lara Secondary College, Lavers Hill P-12 College, Lowanna College, Marcellin College, Matthew Flinders Girls High School, Melbourne High School, Newcomb Secondary College, Oberon High School, Surf Coast Secondary College, Warrnambool Secondary College and Wodonga Middle Years College.
