Principal's Report

STEM Unit Grade 3
Creative minds brainstorming ideas for play spaces in our school yard. Landscaper Matthew from Rocket Box met with students from our three grade 3 classes last Thursday to look at possible ideas for different areas. Their design brief allowed them to choose a space and develop their ideas collaboratively. Students shared their projects from term 2 this year. Matthew will work on a landscape design to present to our school council. Great ideas and innovative solutions.
Working Bee Thank you
Thank you to the many families that found some precious time to help us out on the recent working bee for term 4. Mulch was spread, areas weeded and drains cleared. We finished with a well-earned barbeque.
Parent Helpers Breakfast this Thursday morning
The wafting smell of pancakes and bacon and egg rolls will greet you for the upcoming Parent Helpers Breakfast on Thursday morning. Head to the library for our special thank you to all the helpers and volunteers who help our school.
Walk to School Month
I continue to urge families to walk to school. Park away from the school and encourage your child to use our crossings and walk to school. The health benefits and community building is obvious. Our Student Junior School Council representatives have collected data and across the school we can see an increase in students walking to school. What a great effort.
We have not yet been informed of the outcome from the crossing audit in term 3 and Whitehorse City Council decision about our crossing supervisors for 2020.
Carols on Wednesday December 4th
Classes have chosen their songs in the lead up to the community event. Save this date.
Families are invited to bring a picnic dinner earlier from 5pm on the oval for the start at 6pm with our classes performances. We are hoping the earlier start brings the conclusion to this community event at a reasonable time and families can stay to the end.
Student Led Fundraising
Our student leaders and senior students have planned fundraising events for very different causes. The Milk Shake and Donut event is to raise funds for the upgrade of our toilets. And the fund raising for the bush fire appeal in NSW that has been driven by our grade 6 students in response to the tragic circumstances in NSW and Queensland.
Foundation Information Evening
The Foundation Information Evening for 2019 last Thursday went well. Many families attended and had many of their questions answered about the transition to school in 2020. Families heard from our 2020 Foundation teaching team. Special acknowledgement to all the staff and parents who spoke and a special mention to Super Sparrow, the side kick to Captain AB who made a surprise appearance. Well done Scarlett.

House Sports Day – Arbor the Winners for 2019
What a great day with a high level of participation finishing with the infamous egg toss played out with the House Captains and student leaders. Only a few points separated the winning teams, and this year the win went to Arbor. Congratulations to all the participants and Mr Sacchetta for the smooth organization of the day. Thank you to the parents that helped out on the day in a number of different ways.
