Cricketers Come Up Trumps

Girton's intermediate cricket team journeyed out to the Strathfieldsaye Cricket Complex on Wednesday 11th March to participate in the Sandhurst Division Cricket Carnival.
In our first game of the day, the Girton boys wasted no time in setting Crusoe Secondary College the imposing total of 2/125 off the allotted 15 hours. Led by Captain Aidan Clemens (57 not out) and Ben Cameron (47) the Girton boys were quick to assert their authority and dominated with the bat. With ball in hand, the Girton boys were just as impressive; quickly clamping down on the Crusoe batsmen with very few loose balls or errors in the field. After a strong opening stand, the Crusoe side fell away quickly and were eventually bowled out for 62 guaranteeing the Girton boys a place in the final against Catherine McCauley College. Highlights for the Girton side with ball in hand were the leg-spin of Jeremy Carlson (3 wickets) and Will Perrin (2 wickets - very nearly a hat-trick).
In the final, the Girton boys were focussed and ready for the challenge of taking down the highly fancied CMC outfit. After sending CMC in to bat, the Girton boys were right on the mark bowling with precision and sticking to the team plans. After some late hitting, Girton eventually restricted the CMC side to a very chasable total of 91 for victory. After a solid opening stand by Liam Jones and Ben Cameron (34) and again being led by Captain Aidan Clemens (21) the Girton boys fell painfully short (9 runs) of toppling Catherine McCauley College (and booking a place in the district final). It is hoped that the boys have proven to themselves that they belong with the very best cricketing schools in the district and we look forward to the next opportunity to chase down an elusive district title.
Congratulations to all of the boys involved. Again, the application and behaviour of all involved was exemplary.
