Overview of COVID-19 Current School Response

Travel register: If you still intend to travel abroad (prior to the banning of international flights on 30th March) please email our Registrar, Mrs Alison Quick (registrar@girton.vic.edu.au) who will send a simple proforma for you to complete. If your travel plans have been cancelled, please email the Registrar so we can update our records.

Self-isolation after travel: Please note that the 14 days of self-isolation after overseas travel extends to any members of a household who are in contact with a person returning from overseas.

Reporting COVID-19 contact or diagnosis to the School: Please immediately contact Mr Graham Crickmore on 0488 413 116 if:

  1. A student or family member has travelled on a flight with a passenger confirmed with COVID-19. The airline will endeavour to contact you if this is the case, but you can also check relevant airline websites.
  2. A student or family member has been in direct contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or has had ‘casual’ contact: two hours in the same enclosed space with an infected person.
  3. Your child or an immediate family member has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus.

Preparing for possible school closure: Please consider the following things:

  • Your internet capacity at home for completion of online schoolwork and your capacity in general to support student learning at home.
  • Ask your child to bring home books and other learning resources. They should only take to school resources needed for that day. In the event of unforeseen closure, your child will have many of their learning resources at home.
  • Arrangements for the collection of students from the school at short notice, should the school need to close during the school day.

Personal hygiene: please continue to encourage your children to:

  • Wash hands frequently
  • Maintain distance between one another
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  • Sneeze or cough into an elbow or a tissue

Student sickness: Please keep your child at home if they have flu-like symptoms, even a mild cough or low-grade fever. Staff may discreetly ask students to present themselves to the sick bay if they are persistently coughing or sneezing, and parents will be contacted immediately to collect their child.

Please also consider your own health before entering school grounds to collect students.

Parents electing to keep children at home:  For parents choosing to keep their children at home at this time, staff will be putting lessons on Astra, and we ask that students at home keep up to date with their schoolwork. Please contact relevant teachers directly if you are unsure of classwork requirements and teachers will do all that they can to assist.

  • Ideally, students would be collected from their Tutor Group room in the Senior School or Junior School classroom as soon as parents are notified of the school closure.

  • Students will be able to remain in their Tutor Group room or Junior School classroom until the end of the school day if required, but this is not our preference.

  • If you are unable to collect your child or arrange for someone else to collect them, you may email the classroom or House Tutor and give permission for your child/ren to travel directly home independently. Again, this is not our preference. Emails for House Tutors are on Astra here: https://astra.girton.vic.edu.au/send.php?id=100874
