Senior Sub School

Welcome back everyone to an exciting and busy Term 4 at Chelsea Heights Primary School. It has been wonderful to see the students settle back into their classroom, routines so quickly and show that they are very focused on their learning.

Literacy

Daily 5

In the Senior School, students have been working on establishing their reading skills through the CAFÉ reading strategies using the novel “Holes” by Louis Sachar.

Writing

In Writing, this term the senior students have been working on creating a narrative piece of writing.  The writing prompt students were given is based around ‘The Night Zookeeper’. Students have been working with their proficiency scale and  looking at the language features which make their writing engaging and develop a voice through their writing.

Numeracy

In Mathematics, the senior school students have been working on Shape & Patterns and Algebra. Students have been working with different teachers in flexible groups that cater to every individual students ability. Each pupil identified the area they needed to work on by comparing their test results with the proficiency scale skills. The students have enjoyed having a go at various challenges where they can apply their knowledge of algebra. Have a go at working out the below questions to test your own knowledge.

Level 5 Excursion

The Level 5 students attended two local high schools, Patterson River and Mordialloc College, in preparation for transitioning into secondary school. Students got a taste of what it would be like to attend a secondary school. They participated in a variety of lessons including humanities, science, design tech, food tech, P.E. and many more. Overall it was a valuable experience for the Level 5 students.

Inquiry Topic

Bizarre Bazaar

Rationale

Thinking creatively helps when we are planning, designing, building, and improving.

Investigation into:

  • Market research
  • Advertising
  • The production process

Essential Questions

  • Why is market research important?
  • What makes a good advertisement and why?
  • How do I overcome the challenges of producing more than one of the same item?

Future Action

Students will be able to analyse the ways that things they consume and use have been mass produced. They will be more discerning about ways in which products are marketed. They will apply creative thinking to anything they design and/ or produce.

It's Academic

On Friday 2nd November Haley C, Andy S and Mackenzie R represented Chelsea Heights Primary School at Mordialloc College in the annual It’s Academic challenge. They had to answer questions against other primary schools in front of the Year 7 cohort. They had a great time and should be proud of their efforts.
