A11 the Maths Clinic – Is it for you?

Is that the bell? It’s 1.16 PM! It is lunchtime, finally and you’ve been working hard all day, so who would go to A11 for more work? Maths? Really? Well people are coming to clinic. They come from years 7 to 12 for all levels of maths. Why? Ok, so read on please.

The Maths Clinic is the safe, perfect place to go if you want to eat your lunch and finish that maths homework that has been building up. Sometimes you may try to finish maths at home but there are too many distractions (siblings, pets, Netflix, games, etc.). Also at home you find it hard to solve some of the tough questions but there may not be anyone to ask.

Every Thursday and Friday, the maths staff make room A11 available for students to spend part or all of their lunch break working on the maths topic that you chose. Teachers are there to help. Sometimes to gain tips from a different teacher helps you clear up that misunderstanding that is making the maths hard for you to complete. A full range of textbooks is available for you. Other resources such as pens, rulers and calculators are also there for your use. You can even do your working out on whiteboards.

The Maths Clinic is great for classwork, homework, revising for tests, assignments, numeracy in other subjects, etc. Remember you can turn up, sign in, eat your lunch, leave whenever or listen to music. Working with your friends is encouraged. The Maths Clinic is voluntary. Remember you don’t have to stay all lunch – “just drop in” whenever you like.

Is it for you? Come and find out.

Kool Skools

In the recording studio for Kool Skools songwriting & recording, a fantastic opportunity for students to write and record original songs.

CG#Sounds

Introducing CG#Sounds our new composition & recording project!

At Canterbury Girls’ High School students form years 7-11 are given the opportunity to record their own original songs in a recording studio. Formerly this was as part of the Kool Skools Recording Project, but from 2019 we are independent. Each year a week is set aside for any students who have written songs to travel to a studio and have their songs recorded and mixed. This provides young songwriters with valuable experiences in the studio and develops their songwriting skills.

CG#Sounds is the program’s newest guise, organised entirely by music teachers at the school. An integral part of this new project is our website. This has been expertly develop by Lilli Pollard and Hailie Brown. From this website you will be able to access music, photos and videos from 2012 to present day. We will also have our latest album and a link to a voting form so we can award the best of the best.

Thank you Lilli Pollard and Hailie Brown for putting our new website together.

Below is a link to the new site which features the following;

ASD Peer Support Group

At the end of last term the ASD Peer Support Group farewelled Sabriyah Shamim.  Sabriyah has been an inspiration to the younger girls in the group.  Sabriyah is an exemplary student who has shared her study methods with the group.  Her conscientiousness has helped her achieve solid results in her courses for her HSC.  Sabriyah has been an unswerving advocate for people with disabilities during her time at CGHS.  Sabriyah did a piece to camera for our film ‘Our Stories: Celebrating Diversity’.  In it she outlined her story of going from non-verbal in a unit for ASD in Infants to working hard at Speech Therapy to become verbal, make friends and now sit for her HSC – a remarkable success story.  Sabriyah spoke to assemblies about Autism Awareness week and not only MC’d the assembly for International Day of People with Disability but gave the opening address.  We congratulate Sabriyah and her family on her successful school career and wish her all the best for the future.
