Sayembara Lisan/Indonesian speaking competition
Selamat atas sukses/Congratulations!
Well done to Isabel Smith (8L) for coming first in the state in VILTA’s Year 8 Beginning category and to Mena Alabdullah for winning third in the Year 8 Continuing category against very stiff opposition – over 1300 students!
This is a great effort and we are all very proud that they and Pak Ross could celebrate their success at the state awards ceremony on Friday 22 June. Bagus ya!
Masakan Indonesia – Indonesian Food
The year 9 Indonesian classes have been exploring the world of Indonesian food over Term 2. To help celebrate the end of term and get a really good idea of how awesome Indonesian food is, we were lucky enough to have Bu Rin and Pak Harry come in and run some cooking workshops.
Students helped to cook tempe mendoan, and then used the tempe and a range of tasty side dishes, including krupuk to decorate nasi kuning, which is a must-have at a festive occasion! Well done to Tyla (9L) and Inez (9D) for being judged ‘Best Decorated Nasi Kuning’ by our celebrity judge, Ms Halliburton. It was absolutely delicious, but we saved room for lumpia manis, or sweet spring rolls with banana and chocolate – a crowd favourite.
Bu Rin and Pak Harry made the day a very special one! What a lovely way to spend the last day in the old Embling kitchen, before the renovations start.
Here are some things participants said about the day…
“It was an amazing day, really thankful for Bu Rin and Pak Harry giving up their time to come cook with us. Tempe was awesomely delicious, I just wanted more!! Enak! “
‘“It’s not Indonesian if it isn't fried.”
"There’s a skinny girl who lives inside of me that’s trying to get out but I usually can shut her up with tempe."
“Aku lapar! But this cured it!”
“I came for the chocolate but I stayed for the lumpia manis.”
“The best thing was too see and learn how the different foods are made, and the spring rolls were the best food.”
“My favorite thing was being able to get up and help cook, It was fun to watch the tempe fry.”
“It was really satisfying to watch the krupuk deep fry and puff up!”
