Preparing for 2020

Enrolments continue to flow into the school for 2020. I’m spending considerable time meeting new families, some of whom will be joining us immediately and some who will arrive in 2020. Our school is very popular in the local area and highly respected in the education community. It is invariably the case that new families have been recommended by existing community members, whether family, friends or neighbours, and that’s really gratifying.

OSHC Parent and Student Survey (Part 2)

You will soon have another opportunity to provide your feedback on our Out of School Hours Care service. As you know through last year, we had an increasing number of complaints and concerns regarding the OSHC program, particularly in the way Camp Australia was managing the program. School Council established an OSHC Committee to look into this and to ensure we have the best OSHC program possible. An online survey was  sent to all parents last year and an improvement plan for Camp Australia was put into place, based on the survey results. We are now giving parents an opportunity to redo the survey so that we can make an assessment about what improvements have been made and what still needs to be completed. The survey asks a number of questions from the parents’ perspective but also a small number of questions for students who attend the program. It would be great if parents could help children with this part of the survey. You can complete the survey this time, whether you completed it the first time or not. We had a fantastic response last time and I hope we can get a really good response to the survey this time round.

It is IMPORTANT that parents fill out this survey. We want to measure Camp Australia’s improvements and continue to improve the service for the community. We can only do that with your feedback! An email with the survey link will be sent out soon. The survey is open to all parents whether you use the service or not.

Remembrance Day

Thank you once again to our impressive student leaders who represented our school and community at the Cranbourne Cenotaph, laying a wreath on behalf of our community for Remembrance Day. They were, as we have come to expect, respectful and serious about their role and I thank them sincerely. Thank you also to those at school who helped run a brief ceremony for the other children on this most important day. We know that many in our community have been affected by the terrors of war or know those who have. Remembrance Day is not only an opportunity to show respect and gratitude to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice but is also an opportunity for us to give thanks for the peace in which we live.

Energy Breakthrough

Next week our HPV teams will be heading off to the Energy Breakthrough in Maryborough after many months of hard training, extensive preparation and focused practice. The whole team is very excited about the event with families preparing their camping gear and last-minute preparations happening on the HPV vehicles.  The Energy Breakthrough is an amazing experience for the children and the families as well the teaching staff who are lucky enough to be involved. Many of our young students can’t wait for the opportunity to be involved in this amazing program.  I will be attending the event along with several teachers from the school and I can’t wait to see the children out on the track and performing their presentations to the judges.

Prep Information Night

We had one of our largest turnouts for a long time at our recent prep enrolment information night. It was so pleasing to see so many parents interested in helping their children to make a successful transition from preschool to school. Special thanks go to the whole prep team who gave up another evening of valuable family time to present to the parents. I’m sure the parents were both grateful and reassured by the confident, professional presentation of our highly capable prep team. Next year, it is likely that we will start the year with more than 160 preps. This is our largest enrolment for some six years or more and is indicative of the high demand for placement at Lyndhurst primary school.

Enrolments for 2020 - Reminder

Enrolments for 2020 continue to roll in and we are expecting more than 900 students next year. So that we can make the most accurate estimates for staffing for next year it is most important that parents let us know about their intentions early as possible. If you have not yet enrolled for 2020 or know someone who is not yet enrolled for 2020 please do so, to ensure that happens as soon as possible. If you will be leaving the school in 2020 it is also important that we know as soon as possible. We can only plan on the information we have at hand so we would appreciate any information that might help our planning as soon as we can get that.

And another Lyndhurst baby…

And another baby has joined the Lyndhurst family. Our much loved prep teacher Meg Oudshoorn recently gave birth to her third daughter, Scarlett. Both mum and baby are healthy and well. We wish the Oudshoorn family all the very best with their growing family.
