Open Day Volunteers
Open Day is coming up fast, and as in previous years we highly value the students and parents who volunteer their time on the day.
Our student tour guides and students helping in classrooms really assists the school in coming alive. We often get lots of positive feedback about how the students have conducted themselves.
Parent volunteers have a unique opportunity to chat to visitors, and talk about their experience here. We also highly value your help with practical things like serving food and drinks, car parking, looking out for teachers, helping visitors find the DC when they arrive, etc. We couldn't do the day without our valued volunteers!
We need your help this year! Open Day is May 6th, 10am - 1pm (please allow a little time either side). If you are only able to come for some of the time, that's okay, we'd still love to have you here.
For student helpers, teachers will be asking for volunteers and letters will be going home soon. For parents, please let Sarah Kelly know if you are able to help: sjkelly@bhcs.vic.edu.au
Thank you for helping us show off our beautiful school - it really is a fun day!
Tutoring at BHCS
Over the past two and a half years, BHCS has developed and supported a peer teach peer tutoring program in all subjects including but not limited to Mathematics, English, Science and more.
Our tutors (senior students) need to apply for the position and have to have shown excellence in studies. We currently have past students, who are now studying at University, continue at BHCS as student tutors.
The sessions are between 3:30pm-4:15pm and cost for each session is $20. $10 of the funds support the tutor, and the other $10 will support Christian mission opportunities within and outside the school.
Over the past year, through the tutoring program, BHCS has raised over $2500. These funds have been to support education centres in India, through an organisation called Compelled by Love (CBL).
Currently, we have 16 peer to peer tutoring relationships happening throughout each week. The Tutoring program has a few more tutors available across most curriculum areas.
If you are interested in your child receiving tutoring or would like to know more information in general, please contact the discovery centre: discoverycentre@bhcs.vic.edu.au

Family Photo Day
School Family Photo Day will be held next term on Monday, April 24. More information regarding this and how to order photos will be sent out to families shortly.
Road Safety
We would like to remind families that Wattle Valley Road and Mt Morton Road are both public roads. For the safety of all in the school and local community, please be courteous to other road users, particularly those who may not be from our school community. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Music Matters
A reminder to families that due to the School Holidays, Curriculum Day and Anzac Day Public Holiday, the next Band rehearsal will not be until Tuesday, 2nd May. Please mark this date in your diaries and keep practicing in the meantime!
Year 7, 2019
If you have a child who is expected to start Year 7 in 2019 and you have not yet put in an application, please contact Jodie Davis (Registrar) as soon as possible. The 'offer process' will be conducted later this year, parents will be advised of dates closer to the time. Students currently attending BHCS do not need to reapply.
ANZAC Service Request
This year for our school's ANZAC Day commemoration, (to be held on Wednesday, 26th April), we would like to incorporate the names and faces of servicemen and women who are related to individuals in our School Community and have served or are currently serving in both Australian or New Zealand armed forces. We would like to be able to include a range of representatives from World War I through to our present overseas involvement in Afghanistan and our National Reserves.
While we may not be able to use every entry we receive, we are hoping to use as many as possible. This will give students the opportunity to realise that the ANZAC tradition is one that is deeply embedded in the fabric of our culture and in our collective experience.
If you have information regarding a family member who was or is a serviceman or woman, please take a moment to complete the online form and attach a picture of that person following the link. We need your participation urgently as there is only a short amount of time left.

Many thanks to all the families who have responded to our Anzac request for information on their own loved service personnel. This is the final week we are running this request and, if you have not yet responded, but have someone in your own family tree who served in the military, we'd appreciate hearing from you.
