Junior School

Junior School Report

With the first semester rapidly approaching a close, it is a good time to reflect on the challenges and successes of the first half of the 2019 school year at Scoresby Secondary College.

Year 7 students have almost completed their first semester of secondary schooling, and they are all now well and truly in the swing of the routine of learning at Scoresby Scoresby Secondary College.

Year 7 students have been encouraged to develop

their independent learning skills to help guide their own learning, which is being supported by the school embracing the ‘Growth Mindset.’

We have welcomed many new students into Years 7, 8 and 9 over the course of Semester 1, and we hope that these students have felt supported in their transition into the school program.

Little Shop Of Horrors – School Production

The rehearsals for the school production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ continue in earnest, with Mr Eddy  and Mr Czuchnowski whipping the singers into a coordinated choir frenzy. Tickets will be snapped up quickly, so please keep your ears open for the announcement of when sales commence.

Knox Police Youth Symposium  25 June 2019

The Knox Police partnered with Scoresby Secondary College to host this year’s Youth Symposium, which was held in the Student Centre on Tuesday the 25 June.  With more than 100 students from schools in the Knox area, the Police department wanted to hear what students had to say about issues in the local area, and to hear their creative solutions. This was a fantastic opportunity for our own Student Voice to be heard, and for students to make a real difference within our community. Further opportunities for our students to be part of proposed solutions have also been made possible.

Scoresby Student Sporting News

Year 9 student Mason Rimmer recently competed in the National Trampolining Championships, placing an impressive 5th in his individual class, and an incredible first place in the synchronized category!  A huge congratulations to Mason on his achievements and ongoing success in this sport!

Year 7 student Jonantonio Noah has been selected in the School Sport Victoria, 12 Years & Under Rugby League State Team! This is obviously very exciting, with ‘Jono’ competing in the School Sport Australia Championship to be held in Brisbane, Queensland, from the 3 August to the 10 August!  Scoresby Secondary College lends all its support to Jonantonio, and we hope that he has a wonderful learning experience representing the State of Victoria!

Looking Ahead To Semester 2

Looking ahead to Semester 2, we hope that all students have a rejuvenating break and enter the second half of the year with a fresh outlook and a positive attitude to learning.  We also encourage students to continue fostering their own ‘Growth Mindset’, to allow challenging tasks to be approached with a calm focus that is based on solutions.

In the next newsletter we look forward to reporting on the Respectful Relationships program events for Year 8 & Year 9, the celebration of the 50th year anniversary of the moon landing (including an incursion of the Science Discovery Dome), and keeping you informed of all the other happenings for the students in the Junior School.

Please feel welcome to communicate with the Junior School team if you have any questions or concerns.
