Careers News

Lots of exciting events.....

There has been lots of exciting events taking place in the Careers and Pathways centre during February and March.

The Observe a Surgery competition run by the Dandenong Valley Hospital offered students in Years 10 to 12 the opportunity to apply to win an experience to view a real life surgery. We had many students apply and I am thrilled to announce that ……Natalie Ilievski from Year 10 was the successful candidate!  We look forward to Natalie sharing her experiences with the school community after scrubbing in!!!

A big thank you and congratulations to the other candidates for not only applying but for also attending the Dandenong Valley Hospital Careers in Health Information evening held last week. These students heard about the career pathways from a range of Health professionals including Hospital management, Director of Nursing and a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.

In a big week for Natalie Ilievski she also found out that she has been accepted into the Melbourne Neuro Science program for her week of work experience later this year!

Congratulations Natalie on actively chasing your dream!

Careers events……

The Year 12 students have attended a Careers and Pathways session here at school. Timelines and key concepts were covered. Students were all encouraged to give the careers team accurate contact details to allow us to get important information to them during the course of this very busy year.  Each year 12 student will be allocated an interview time to meet with me in term 2 to discuss their individual career plans- specifically relating to course applications. Parents and students are encouraged to like www.facebook.com/CarwathaPathways  to keep up to date with important information. Our Careers News which is published on the schools website each fortnight is also important reading for our V3 students!

Year 10 students participated in their first MIPS session last week. They were fortunate to have award winning author Scot Gardner visit. Scot reminded student’s that no matter what it is you do in life give it your best shot because every opportunity leads you to meeting new people “networking” and developing skills that are transferable to your next job opportunity!

Scot quoted Martin Luther King …..“If a person is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well”

Year 10’s were the first in our school to use the new careers resource  www.wirl.com.au  to complete Career interest quiz and then to start researching potential occupations of interest.  The Carwatha Community are welcome to use this resource. Log in: carwatha  Password: carwatha15

EXCITING news…..Congratulations to Year 12 student Natasha Martin on being selected to       participate in the Monash University program Insight into Paramedicine.  Natasha’s written     application was chosen based on her keen interest in the field. Well done Tash!
