Aiming High at LNPS

Developing Successful Learners

Aiming High at LNPS

This year LNPS staff began a three year journey in defining and further developing “What does it mean to be a successful learner”. Through professionals development and ongoing professional readings we worked as a collective to develop an understanding of the key characteristics of a successful learner through consultation with staff, students and the wider community.

This term we worked in collaboration with our Governing Council and parent focus groups on identifying the learner qualities they value most in our learners. Through this consultation we have identifies 6 qualities that have been ratified by Governing Council and will now replace our current 18 learner qualities.

Our aspiration is that all students at LNPS develop learner qualities that are underpinned by our values of Respect, Care and Concern, Honesty and Pursuit of Excellence. Our values will underpin all expectations at LNPS.

The ultimate goal is for LNPS students to exhibit characteristics of successful learners. Students who are continually aiming high, knowing what they are learning, what success looks like, and acting upon feedback.

Our new LNPS leaner qualities are:

  • Collaborative
  • Resilient
  • Reflective
  • Independent
  • Curious
  • Innovative

In week 0 staff will be further developing what each learner quality looks like, what we will hear and see student do and say. Our aim is for our students to be able to articulate and use the established learner qualities in their learning.

Our next steps involve:

  1. Determining  how we will make our learner qualities  visible to the students and the community
  2. Determining how we will explicitly teach our learner qualities in the context of learning
  3. Planning the evidence we will gather throughout the year to determine whether the learner qualities are being developed in all learners across the school.

Aiming High at LNPS initiative enables our students to demonstrate the learner qualities, which our school community acknowledges as essential skills that all students should have on completion of their time at LNPS.

As students are encouraged and supported to take charge of their own learning, the Aiming High at LNPS initiative will be implemented R-6.
