Victorian School Music Festival

The Beginner Band and the Junior Concert Band were the final two Box Hill High School ensembles to take part in the Victorian School Music Festival this term. The first ensemble to perform was the Junior Concert Band (year 8 students) on Monday 14th November at the Hawthorn Arts Centre. After a rehearsal after school, students then caught the train to Glenferrie Station before taking part in the two hour session. Students were able to listen to other school bands of a similar standard perform, perform their program on stage and have an on-stage tutorial from guest conductor, Ken Waterworth. The ensemble performed, 'A Scottish Festival', 'Sea Breeze' and 'The Secret Laboratory' and according to the judges, performed to an “Excellent” standard. It was a wonderful experience for all involved and was great to perform in the newly renovated Hawthorn Arts Centre in front of 500 people.

The Beginner Band had a very similar experience on Wednesday 16th November. Performing 'The Spook', 'Woodpeckers Convention' and 'Bunyip Blues', the band was also judged to have performed to an “Excellent” standard and had a very positive musical experience.  It was a great opportunity to have an on-stage tutorial with Dr Jemima Bunn.

I am very proud at the way both ensembles performed at the Victorian School Music Festival and I looking forward to seeing all students continue their musical development next year. Well done one and all.

Year 10/11 Music Concert

Students from the Year 10 and 11 Music class performed in the Quad on Tuesday 25th October.  After worrying about the excessive rain we had been experiencing, the sun was shining and it turned out a little hot in the sun.  Students performed a variety of works from 'Hey Jude' by the Beatles, 'When The Sun Goes Down' by the Arctic Monkeys, 'Vienna' by Billy Joel and 'All Of Me' by John Legend.  The concert also saw the performance of an original composition by Diwen Chen, Shana Intan and Barhar Fardipour called, “Winter Home”.  Well done to all involved.

Good Bye and Good Luck Year 12 Music Performance

Year 12 Music
Year 12 Music

We wish all Year 12 Music students all the best in the future.  It has been wonderful to see them perform so often over the years and develop their music skills. We will not only miss their musicianship but also the wonderful people they have become.

Spring Concert 2022

The annual all-ensembles Spring Concert was held at the end of last term at the Box Hill Town Hall.  All school-based ensembles performed, along with solos from Becky Howlett and Cameron Kennedy. We also said good-bye to 16 Year 12 students who performed at the concert, most of whom have been involved in the music program all of their High School life. We are looking forward to returning to the Town Hall in 2023.

It has been wonderful to run the program as it is meant to be since 2019.  We look forward to another action- packed year in 2023. All the best for Christmas and the New Year.
