Awards Assembly

Last week we acknowledged and celebrated our awards assembly award recipients of Year 9 and 10 subject electives and sports. Boys who have selected subjects they are naturally interested in, combined with a positive work ethic have gone on to achieve outstanding results. They have demonstrated great commitment to their chosen areas of study and in turn have begun to shape their own career pathways. As a College we will always recognise and celebrate those young men who achieve outstanding results. These results just don’t happen and require a positive attitude and work ethic to push and challenge themselves. Our elective programme is extensive and highly dependent upon our skilled and passionate teaching staff, whom without these offerings could not be possible.

Our sports award recipients highlight our commitment and belonging to our community and all the co-curricular opportunities that are on offer. In particular we thank and acknowledge Mr Michael Moschogianis and Mr Ryan Borsboom for all of their coordination and for making these opportunities possible. At SVC we always encourage boys to get involved. For it is when they get involved, they begin to realise their sense of connection to both their peers, staff and College as a whole. This sense of belonging inevitable influences all parts of school life.

To those who received recognition for their efforts we congratulate you on your hard work. To those who know they could raise the bar and work that 10 per cent harder or more effectively we encourage you to reflect on how you go about your school business. Are you setting yourself up for success? Are you giving yourself the best opportunity to improve? Having a chat with your PC teacher or subject teacher is a great starting point in starting to ramp things up.

Exams

Year 10s are currently in the throes of exams and have done so with great maturity. Stress and anxiety are naturally high at these times and in alleviating this comes down to confidence in the preparation prior to the culminating event. Self-confidence comes from being productive and knowing that you can achieve. Each lesson should be treated as a training session, practicing the skills and understandings which lead towards the main assessment task. The best preparation which can be done to assist in exams is the work done throughout each lesson. Our younger years have been particularly inquisitive with what the Years 10s are experiencing and there seems to be a fear associated with exams. This is naturally a myth that we want to disprove. Being on top of your class work, catching up through homework or study on items missed, doing the extra to conquer what you find tough and asking questions to your teacher all work towards removing the fear, anxiety and stress associated with exams or any other major assessment piece.
