CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

Coming back from camp, I think it’s fair to say that by now, we’ve all had a taste of what Year 12 is like. We’ve had our first full week of schooling for the year, and we are getting straight into all our subjects. The slightly anxious atmosphere as the first SACs of the year approach us, is circulating amongst the eager talk and there is anticipation for both our Year 12 formal and our hoodies. We’ve all made ourselves comfortable in our common room, with the tables filled every recess and lunch time, and queues of students waiting to use the appliances like our microwaves and toaster machines. We also just received our Year 12 badges, giving us the privilege of visiting the 7-Eleven and McKinnon Reserve during our lunch time.

In addition, the private study rooms are also a big hit amongst the cohort, which are being utilised in our free periods, as well as the snooker rooms being populated every lunch, a place where we can learn a new skill, or simply for some, an alternative to socialising with friends and others in the year level. Already, you can tell that the cohort is becoming closer than what we once were three to four weeks ago.

Though we are already seeing the last of many annual events that have occurred throughout all our schooling such as our final school camp, and even our last ever school photos, one can’t help but get excited for the year that’s to come, it will be a blast! Even our final House Music Festival is around the corner!! I encourage those to sign up and get involved if they haven’t already.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

It’s always an exciting feeling returning back to school from holidays. Being able to catch up with mates and socialise at recess and lunch, everyone always has something to look forward to.

The East Campus is hustling and bustling again with the new Year 8s being introduced to their new Campus. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the Year 8s and I hope they can get involved with the many lunchtime clubs or sports in the gym with their friends.

The Year 9s have completed their Morrisby interviews, which provides an idea on what jobs each individual student may like. These provide an insight as to what each students’ strengths and weaknesses may be in their education.

It is a pleasure to be the Junior School Captain of McKinnon Secondary College. I was so thrilled as soon as I got that badge to get this role as my goal is to allow student voices to be heard among the McKinnon community. I hope my courage and determination will help guide this school forward for many years to come.
