YEAR 12 CAMP

2023’s Year 12 camp to Phillip Island was an exciting start to our cohort's year together.

Arriving at the campsite gave us deja vu from five years ago, back when we attended the same camp in Year 7 and began our McKinnon journey. Back then, it was an anticipated fresh start to the school, but now, it serves to remind ourselves that these were the people that we would be graduating with, and the same people who have been by our sides all throughout high school.

The first day began with a speech from teachers detailing the year ahead, giving us a different outlook on Year 12, accompanied soon after with laughter all throughout dinner with friends, and a competitive trivia game which gave us the chance to test our knowledge on all different topics, such as sport, music and even McKinnon culture.

Waking up at 6:30am wasn’t the most thrilling start to the day, however the early hours allowed us to partake in activities such as the Flying Fox, Giant Swing and teamwork games. Raft Making and Canoeing were stand out activities, as they were more interactive and hilarious to compete against. These games gave us the chance to make new friends, and possibly even end a few friendships after tipping each other out of the canoe.

Even after five years at McKinnon I’ve had the opportunity to meet students in my grade that I’d never spoken to before, and now, I have grown even closer to all different people in the year level. The school had even organised a "doof" for the students to attend instead of holding our own, and it was DJed by the students!

Overall, Year 12 camp in Phillip Island was extremely enjoyable and really gave the cohort the chance to meet new people and create new bonds for our final year of school.
