YEAR 7s INTRODUCTION TO ICT

The Year 7s have got off to a brilliant start in ICT as they get to know their chromebooks and develop skills to use them efficiently in all subject areas.

We have been familiarising ourselves with the G Suite and navigating our way through Stile, an online learning platform that helps them keep track of what they are doing each lesson.

We have also signed the students up to Typing.com which has been received with great enthusiasm!

This week, we are utilising Marq (formerly Lucidpress). It is a web-based desktop publishing application which will help them create a “Who I Am” poster to be displayed in their Form Rooms.

Here are a few quotes from Year 7 students with their first impressions of ICT at McKinnon:

ICT Is an interesting class with different activities and things to do. We have Stile, which is a website where the teacher assigns activities and assignments to do. Then, we have typing.com, where we learn to type with both hands all around the keyboard. The highest WPM (Words Per Minute), Accuracy and Stars I have got are: 96 WPM, 3/3 Stars and 100% Accuracy. I enjoy it a lot and it keeps me motivated!

I am very satisfied so far and am very glad that you have introduced programs like Stile. I am looking forward to doing more advanced things like coding or creating working robots.

Nathan Bau

ICT is very fun and all the teachers are super nice and helpful.

Matthew Lee

ICT so far has been amazing! I love walking into the classroom every lesson and look forward to doing something fun and creative!

As the term progresses, students will be learning the fundamentals of digital citizenship and safety. Students will learn how to create algorithms to design simple steps to solve problems and improve their logical thinking skills.
