Senior School

5/6 JDZ & 5/6 JD

Can you believe we've reached the end of Term One already?  We've had a fantastic start to the year and a very busy one as well! These final couple of weeks of term have been the busiest!

We are looking forward to what next term has to offer! Have a wonderful holidays!

IN OUR LEARNING

With NAPLAN now all wrapped up, our main focus to end the term has been in our Humanities. We completed our History unit, exploring major events in Australia's Colonial History between 1788-1900. This included Indigenous history pre-colonisation, the arrival of the First Fleet, convicts becoming settlers, the Gold Rush, Ned Kelly and finishing with Federation. The students are now working on a project/presentation focusing on one influential person during this time. They are researching why this person was important and will create an online presentation to display their findings.

STATE SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR

Our VSSS students attended their first Mass Dance rehearsal with the Officer Cluster at Officer Secondary College on Monday 27th March. While we were missing some of our dancers who were at Young Leaders Day, the

9 students who attended the rehearsal were absolutely fantastic! Their hard work in the weeks leading up were clearly on show with other schools commenting on how well our kids knew the dances!

NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS DAY

Our school captains and house captains attended National Young Leaders Day on Monday 27th March at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. They were able to listen to some very inspirational guest speakers including comedian Nazeem Hussain, business entrepreneur Amanda Johnstone, broadcast journalist Candy Hertz and AFL and media personality Robert Dipierdomenico. These speakers shared their life experiences and how they've overcome challenges and developed leadership skills in the hopes of helping students to develop their own leadership potential. Our captains did a fantastic job of representing the school and enjoyed participating in the event!

GREASE - ST MARGARET'S BERWICK GRAMMAR

We were extremely fortunate to be invited down to St Margaret's Berwick Grammar to watch a dress rehearsal for their production, Grease! We were the only people in the audience for this particular rehearsal and our students were amazed by the incredible talents and overall production! It was awesome and we are very grateful for the opportunity to head down and watch!

LIAM TWOMEY VISIT

On Tuesday 28th March, Liam Twomey, a triathlete and aspiring Paralympian, came to our school to speak to our Year 3-6 students. He had some very important messages about mental strength and how we can use gratitude, mindfulness and goal-setting to help achieve success!

LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP

Last Friday (31st March), our basketball, tennis and cricket interschool sports teams competed in their Lightning Premiership competitions. It was a wonderful day with our students showing excellent camaraderie and sportsmanship!
