Learning and Teaching

Teaching and learning at St Mary’s this term has been very busy with learners exploring community, identity and belonging. Teachers have been busily planning for next term which will be filled with exciting, engaging and fun learning experiences. Teachers continue to track the  growth of their learners through collating data for explicit teaching and have been thrilled with learners’ progress.

The Foundation learners have been busy constructing family trees for their Inquiry investigation. They have been learning to recognise the different places that they belong and who are the extended members of their families. The foundation learners have used their critical thinking skills and creativity to construct their trees. The Foundation learners trees have taken many different forms from the traditional tree, to cup constructions and even photo frames. Well done Foundation learners on a fantastic term of learning!

Year 6 students have explored the concept of area and perimeter. They have created house designs to show their understanding of measurement, in particular length, width, area and perimeter. Experimenting with estimation, real life measurements and making connections to the real world has resulted in engaged learners who have followed the process of trial and error. Here are some examples of their impressive work.
