May/Term2/2023

Greetings White Gum Valley Primary School Community,

I hope you all had a wonderful school holiday? I would like to talk about identifying our emotions and how to manage them in this newsletter. For example, a good practice to have in regards to identifying our emotions is using Zones of Regulation. In terms of managing our emotions, a good concept I would like to share is called: Filling Your Bucket. Questions that assists with this include: What are some tools that could make me feel better or help me to cope positively about the situation? What are some ideas that could help others to feel good? Am I being a bucket filler or a bucket dipper?

Zones of Regulation posters can be used to help students identify their emotions, and how they are feeling. This also gives them the ability to visualise, identify, and work on bringing their emotions back into the green zone. The Zones of Regulation and buck filling concepts are used at this school by Teachers and EA staff. I’ve also attached a couple of examples of activities that can be used at home to assist with students identifying emotions and feelings.

Have a great week,  from your Chappy!

SunSmartTips

When visiting the school, families and visitors are asked to use a combination of sun protection measures. Children learn lifelong sun protection behaviours from their parent, so lead by example!

This term we challenge you to crunch the rainbow for Crunch&Sip® by making a rainbow in your classroom. Eating different coloured fruits and vegetables provides lots of different vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. Which is why crunching on a rainbow will help kids get the right balance of nutrients they need for a healthy body.
