ANZAC

On 27 April, the year sixes of W.G.V.P.S went on an ANZAC March to acknowledge the ANZACs of World War One and World War Two, and the many other servicemen and women who have fought for our country.

The year sixes started their march on Coleville Crescent and walked down Spearwood Avenue until they reached Beale park. Where they paid their respects to the ANZACs past, present and future. The roads were closed and cars had to stop as the march with hundreds of students walked on the road, led by the Scotch bagpipe band.

Seton Catholic College hosted the event and delivered speeches and poems about the ANZACs. The Seton Catholic choir also sang songs from the war, and we are Australian and both Australia’s and New Zealand’s anthem. Guests from the military attended and told stories about the war.

Positive Behaviour Support

At the end of Term 1, the Student Councillors worked with Mrs Walker to determine Term 2's fortnightly behaviour focus.

During Weeks 3 & 4, our fortnightly behaviour focus will be:

'following the expectations of designated areas'

Staff will be discussing with students the expected and unexpected behaviours of designated areas around the school.

Attendance Matters

At the end of every term, we analyse the attendance records of our students. The Department of Education sets the expectation that students should attend school for at least 90% of the term. A child would only need to miss one day a fortnight to fall below this expectation. When a child’s attendance falls below 90, we may need to follow this up with parents.

We very much appreciate it when parents inform us of reasons for an absence. We may need to contact families should a pattern of absence or a sudden decline in attendance occur. It can be easy to lose track of how many days your child is absent from school; a letter is occasionally sent to parents at the start of the following term to inform them of their child’s attendance rate if it falls behind 90%.

If you receive a letter and would like to discuss it, please see your child’s teacher or contact Sam Tingle, our Deputy Principal.

Attendance Matters

Did you know that 1 missed day per fortnight is equal to 4 weeks in a year and a whole year across the school life of a student?

Every day really does count.
