Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing
Week 2 Term 2
Term 2 has commenced and students and staff are already busy with learning activities and extra-curricula events. Year 10 have jumped straight into Minimum Standards testing and are to be commended for how they have engaged with this. Our music and drama students are busy rehearsing for the Cabaret night and this is sure to be a wonderful evening of entertainment. There are many students trialing for various sporting teams and a group of PASS students provided valuable support at the Diocesan Cross Country hosted by St Patricks. All this and more packed into 2 short weeks.
Independent Drug Education Australia
Year 9 and 10 attended a presentation by Tom Reynolds from Independent Drug Education Australia (IDEA) on Friday April 28. They were provided with skills and strategies to protect themselves and their friends in all alcohol and drug related situations. The key focus was providing proactive and responsive skills and strategies. A key piece of information shared with the students was that young people saying “NO” to underage drinking, vaping and illicit drug taking was actually the large majority - despite what is portrayed in the media and the pressure our youth often feel they are under. This was very reassuring.

School Refusal
Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, some young people struggle with regular and ongoing school attendance. When it comes to supporting students who are refusing to go to school, the key is to recognise and understand the underlying causes early on. Strategies can then be put in place to support them before their behaviour develops into something more serious. If you have concerns about your child’s school attendance you may find this article helpful. Please remember that the College will work with you to support school attendance.
A reminder that all students should be in full winter uniform for the commencement of week 3.
