Students must wear the school uniform as listed in the school planner. Please label all of your items. Facial piercings and unnaturally coloured hair are not permitted. Second-hand uniform can be purchased through the Second life Uniform Shop at www.boccafoods.com.au and  Sustainable School Shop

New uniforms are available from Bob Stewart located in High Street, Kew. You can take the number 48 Tram to Bob Stewart (stop 33).

Please note that black lace-up leather school shoes are compulsory for all students and T-bar shoes are not permitted.  PE uniform is only to be worn for sport and PE classes. Please refer to MGC planner for more details.

Students must use the official school bag and keep the school bag in their locker at all times. Students may receive detention for carrying their bags to class or leaving them in the corridors where they create an Occupational Health and Safety risk.

PHOTO ID

All students at MGC will be issued with a photo ID. The ID card has a barcode. This ID should be carried at all times and is used when signing in and out of the school and borrowing books from the library. If you lose your ID card you can order a replacement one via the Compass Portal located on the MGC website or via the general office. There is a charge to re-order an ID card.

 PLANNER

All students in years 7 and 8 and new studnets will be issued with an MGC Planner. This is to be kept in a neat and tidy manner. Replacement planners can be purchased through the general office

BOOKS

A booklist is found at http://mgc.vic.edu.au/our-college/library/booklists/ and the books can be ordered from Campion Education.

 ATTENDANCE

  • Year 10 students are required to be a school at all times.
  • VCE students are required to be at school for all lessons and must attend all sessions including assemblies. Students should ensure that they arrive at school at least 15 minutes prior to the commencement of their class in order to access their locker and prepare themselves for their first class.
  • Some VCE students may have a free period during the day. Students must stay on the school grounds until the end of period 3.
  • VCE students who do not have a class on during period 4 are permitted to leave at the end of period 3.

 ABSENCES

Students must minimize absences. Absence through illness requires a note from home or a medical certificate (necessary if a VCE SAC is missed). Parents should enter the absence approval on Compass. If there is no access to a computer with internet access parents can also telephone the school on 9428 8955 if a student is absent but this must then be followed up by a letter or email from home explaining the absence. Your parents are also encouraged to keep in touch with your Year Level Leader/Assistant Year Level Leader by email. An SMS will be sent to parents in the morning if a student is absent from school.

If you are going on holiday during the school year we require your parents to make contact with your Year Level Leader and Assistant Year Level Leader to discuss whether or not you will need to take school work with you or not.

International students under welfare option 3 and 4 are required to notify the International Student Coordinator (ISC) of their absence before 9 am.  The ISC will approve the absence after receipt of a note from the student's homestay parent.

EARLY DEPARTURE

Students who have appointments that require them to leave school early must have their parents enter an approval on Compass. Students must sign out via the General Office using their student ID card.

LATENESS

Persistent lateness can mean unsatisfactory progress in your subjects. Students who arrive late to school must sign in at the Compass Kiosk at the General office. A late pass will be issued and this is to be shown to the teacher when entering the class.

If you are late due to an appointment or commitment outside of the school then it is expected that your parent(s) will enter the absence approval on Compass prior to the day or on the day. If the lateness is unexpected (such as a public transport delay) then parents can enter the approval after the event on Compass or supply a note to the Year Level Leader or Assistant Year Level Leader by the following day to explain their lateness.

EXCURSIONS, CAMPS & MAKING PAYMENTS AT THE GENERAL OFFICE

Parents can give approval to and pay for excursions and camps online via Compass or through the General Office. Please follow the timelines given to you on the paperwork as online (Compass) approvals and payment cannot be processed after the due date and will need to be done via the General Office. Payments will be taken at the General Office before school and at break times.

The International Student Coordinator will approve permission slips for excursions and camps for international students under welfare options 3 and 4.  The student will print out the permission slip and present it for a signature to the ISC.  The signed permission slip is then lodged at the general office. The ISC cannot give approval for excursions and camps directly on Compass.

LOCKERS

You will be given a combination lock when you enrol for the first time at MGC. The location of your locker will change each year and you are expected to keep your locker clean and tidy at all times. Do not share your combination with anyone. You are permitted to access your locker before school and during recess and lunchtimes. You are not permitted to access your locker between periods 2 and 3.

RULES ABOUT BEING INSIDE DURING LUNCH TIMES AND RECESS

You are not permitted to eat in corridors or classrooms during lunchtime and recess. During wet weather and extreme weather periods, an announcement will be made informing students that they are able to sit in designated rooms. Students are not to eat in corridors at any time. Students are required to keep the rooms clean and tidy.

DETENTION PROCESS

There is lunchtime detention on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1.30 pm to 1.50 pm. Students may be given a detention for eating inside, not keeping their bags in their locker, being out of class without permission, the incorrect wearing of the uniform, having a phone turned on in class, or chewing gum. Teachers may also give detention for other breaches of school rules. Failure to attend lunchtime detention will result in a Tuesday afternoon detention issued by the Year Level Leader.
