Learning Centre News...

Learning Centre 1

The team in LC1 were so excited to welcome back our Preps to onsite learning in Term 4. What a first year of school they've had! We have to give them credit for how resilient they have been throughout this year and how they have settled beautifully back into their learning group routines. It's been a delight to see them all so happy to connect and chat to their friends.

The Preps will celebrate a very delayed '100 Days of School' on Friday 6th November. During this day we will have a fun day exploring activities to do with the number 100. It will be a fun and engaging day of celebrating all they have achieved across this year. Students can dress up with anything they can think of to do with the number 100 - OR they can wear casual clothes to school (as we know it's hard to do dress up's at this point in time!!)

In LC1 we are thrilled to also welcome Rachael to our space. She joins our Prep team for the next 4 weeks as she continues her journey to become a teacher. The Preps are so excited to have you and we hope you enjoy your time with us!

Learning Centre 2

We would like to welcome everyone back to Term 4. It has been wonderful to see all the students' faces and get to work with them again.

In Literacy, students are looking at explanation writing and in numeracy they will be focusing on measurement and data. In Inquiry the students will be investigating heat energy, learning the ways that heat can be produced and move from one object to another. They will participate in experiments to help develop their understanding.

Just a reminder that students need to bring their hats and a drink bottle with them each day.

All the teachers would like to extend a big thank you for all of your support during remote learning and for helping your children transition back to school.

The Year 1/2's have settled back into 'face to face' learning for Term 4. They were eager to see their friends and teachers and have adjusted to our school routine exceptionally well. In literacy we have been looking at procedure writing, students are learning to use specific steps to give instructions. During numeracy, students have been engaged in exploring fractions and how they are made up of equal parts.

Just a reminder that students need to bring their hats and a labelled drink bottle for the rest of the Term. Please note that we will not be doing take-home books, but students are able to use Bug Club as a reading platform to continue practising their skills at home.

We would like to thank you for your continued support throughout remote learning.

We can't wait to see what the students achieve throughout this Term.

Thanks

1/2 Team.

It is so good to have our Senior students back on site.  The nervous excitement was felt by both staff and students on day 1, some students commented 'it's like starting the year all over again'. The students settled remarkably quickly and relished in the opportunity to share the feelings and emotions, both verbally and through art, they have experienced over the last few months. This openness certainly gave us, as teachers, an insight into how COVID is impacting the students in our care.

My COVID Emotions

The words explain how I was feeling during quarantine, not just on one day:

Suffocated: because I have been around the same people for so long, it was restricting.

Anti-social: because I can't go & see anyone

Overwhelmed: because I couldn't do anything to change the situation

Claustrophobic: I felt trapped

Helpless: I knew there was nothing I could do

Bored: I couldn't go & see anyone or do anything

Adventurous: I tried a lot of new things

MY 2020

by Moana

This is how 2020 went for me.

Bored: I had nothing to do other than school or chores and that made me miss my friends.

Tired: I have been tired & couldn't sleep.

Quarantined: stayed home for over 10 weeks, not allowed to go out.

Annoyed: I was annoyed at some school work and also the fact that I couldn't go out of the house.

Unmotivated: I wasn't motivated to do many things like school.

Lonely: I felt lonely mainly because my brother had school zooms, my parents had to work & are renovating the house

Sad: I have been sad because I feel helpless and haven't seen my friends so haven't smiled, also because I miss family friends.

Angry: I felt angry when I heard that lockdown was getting extended.

My Feelings

by Alaisha

Restless: I felt restless because I had a lot of energy stored in me & I just had to push it deep down inside me because I wasn't allowed to do anything outside except walking & jogging.

Lifeless: I felt lifeless because I was stuck inside all day, bullying my brain to work, while the sun just shone outside.

Relief: I feel relieved that we are back at school with our friends and teachers.

Frustrated: because we couldn't go out or to school

Angry: I felt angry at COVID.

Lisa's Learning group created emojis to show their feelings and wrote why they felt that way.

Senior Students have also been very busy learning & refining the difficult art of writing a Persuasive text. We certainly have some budding authors and or journalists in the senior school. The topic choice was easy because what better to write about than current events, have a read of some of the persuasive texts around the topic:

'Should wearing masks be compulsory for all Australians'

My Introduction

by Asini

Face masks are imperative component of the tool-box in the fight against an infectious pandemic like COVID - 19. Masks have been worn quite a lot now a day’s because of the pandemic. Masks have been a common practice for most of the world today because of the rise of the death toll and cases of COVID- 19. Masks are used to keep your germs to yourself and keep other  germ coming to you.  Even though they don’t protect you completely  from COVID - 19, it reduces the odds of you transmitting aerosoles and you receiving aerosols from others. When coughing with a simple cloth mask on, the amount of aerosols spreading decreases by 90%. Masks should  be compulsory for all Australians because it  reduces the amount of aerosoles spreading from one another, mask reduces you touching your mouth and nose and scientific research shows that mask are effective if worn properly.

My Background

by Edin

COVID 19 is a respiratory disease that started in China in 2019. Statistics have shown that over a million people have died with over 30 million cases worldwide. Th spread has been deadly and the disease is still here today. Masks have shown to save lives and shorten the spread, communities around the world have been devastated with over 100,000 jobs being shut down because of this pandemic.

My Introduction

by Alex

Year 2020 is a challenging year for everyone due to the COVID 19 pandemic caused by a new type of coronavirus. The coronavirus is highly infectious because the virus is spreading mostly through close contact, touching contaminated objects, droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes or exhales. So far, the virus has infected 28million people in the world and 27,000 people in Australia. Due to the increasing number of infected people in Australia and no vaccine so far to fight this virus the government introduced measures  such as social distancing and hand hygiene practices to help slow the spread. These measures together with face mask wearing will offer protection from the virus to all the people. Wearing a face mask must be compulsory for all Australians because it will reduce the community transmission.

My Introduction

by Ronelle

In late 2019 and early 2020 most countries were plagued with a deadly disease called coronavirus; (COVID19), which originated in Wuhan, China. Coronavirus is a virus that attacks your respiratory system and can have many complications which can be deadly. To date, over one million people have already died due to the virus. In Australia there have been many restrictions put in place to keep Australians safe. The latest of these was mandatory mask wearing in Victoria from July, 2020. Masks must be compulsory for all Australians, as it is our civic responsibility, a reminder that COVID19 is still around us and they are a cheap and easy product but will prevent you from contracting the virus.

Visual literacy, chance & data & fractions are also on the go & the students are doing great work.
