Principal's Message

Liam Buckley

Prayer for Teachers

Loving God, we pray for teachers.

That you may bless and guide them as they work towards enriching the lives of others through the gift of education.

Loving God, we thank you for the gift of learning. We pray for children who cannot attend school due to conflict, natural disasters and emergencies.

May we always appreciate the gift of education as a means of building a better future for all.

We pray to the Lord. (Caritas)

Dear Parents

It has been a fantastic few weeks at St Joseph's as we move towards a new normal. Your children are responding so well to being back onsite and I would like to thank you and their teachers for supporting everyone during this transition.

It was a privilege watching the students and staff enjoying the fun last Thursday with footy colours and Book Week dress up. Click and Collect must have been running red hot at Spotlight!

I can only imagine how amazing this community will be once restrictions ease and we can gather and celebrate together.

Before and After School Care

I am in communication at the moment with a provider as to the viability of having before and after school care onsite. I realise that is it challenging for a provider to establish a business model based on the enrolments we currently have. Nonetheless we are hopeful that we will have a partnership in place for the 2021 academic year. A survey is being prepared and we will send it to you via Operoo when I receive it.

Class Structure 2021

Dear parents and carers, the staff and Leadership at St Joseph's are currently in a consultative process to determine the class structure for 2021.

I appreciate that a model for 2021was advertised to parents in the final week of Term 3 and I am grateful for the time and thought that went into that process.

As principal, I am mindful of the year that we have had and the very real need for schools to prioritise children's learning next year. I am also cognisant of our need to grow enrolments over time to ensure the school's viability.

The structure for 2021, although not finalised, will be designed to accomodate; personalised learning in numeracy and literacy and opportunities for the children to learn and play with children beyond their immediate class. We are doing that work now and I will communicate the finalised structure as soon as possible and staffing arrangements will follow. I can confirm that Foundation for 2021 will be a straight grade and not a combined F/1 class.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation WILL take place this term. Father David is awaiting further updates and I will pass them on asap.

May I take a moment to thank Fr David and Fr Dean for the support and work they are doing across our Bayside Catholic Mission including a great deal of time and energy that is required as we work towards a change of governance in January.

Thank you students

Once again the students have been the heartbeat of our school and I thank you for the support and partnerships you have developed over the year with your teachers.

Friday is World Teachers' Day and if you were to find a minute in your day, perhaps an email to a teacher or a little note would be a precious and valued gift.

World Teachers' Day

On Friday 30 October, school communities across Victoria will celebrate the significant contribution that teachers make in shaping the lives of children and young people, their families and communities. It has never been a more important time to recognise the incredible dedication that Victorian teachers have shown during 2020 – a year of unprecedented challenges. (VIT)

World Teachers' Day 2020 will celebrate teachers with the theme 'Teachers: leading in crisis, reimagining the future'. This theme reflects the commitment teachers have made as leaders particularly teaching throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, in a range of environments.

Reminder that there is no school for students on Monday or Tuesday next week.
