Principal's News

Journeying Together in Christ

Principal's Welcome

The last two weeks have certainly passed very quickly with a couple of public holidays. With today being the seventh straight day of 0 Covid 19 transmissions, we hope that life will continue to get back to normal. We receive a 36 page Operational Guideline update on a regular basis from Catholic Education Commission Victoria.

The children are enjoying the new outdoor courts again.

Last Friday's book week dress up day was a lot of fun and we beat the rain. Well done to all the families and staff.

There are a number of small opportunities to gather socially. See the Community Group news.

We welcome Eydie (Year 5) and Rueben Fennell (Year 6) and their family to St. Luke's.

End of Year Events

End of Year Whole School Mass- we will not be having an end of year mass with families at this stage. We will keep the date and time for an in school event in some form.

Year 6 Graduation- This will be done at school and the 5/6 teachers are planning this. We will make this a special Year 6 farewell.

Year 6 Big Day Out- this will be on school grounds this year and the teachers will communicate what this will look like and some exciting events for the children. We will bring BIG DAY OUT to the students!

Disco- staff will coordinate this at the end of the year in class groupings.

More information will follow from the unit leaders.

Transitions

Year 7, 2021 NDC

At this stage there is no onsite transition program for NDC. This is certainly not their preferred choice.

-an email was sent on 22nd October to Year 6 parents outlining the procedures

-further information will be on their website under Quicklinks- Year 7, 2021

-if restrictions change, they will review their plans.

Given the restrictions of only 10 students per visit, I understand the challenge a large secondary school would face with approximately 350 students visiting in groups of 10.

If you have any further questions families are encouraged to contact the college.

Whole school Orientation: This will be on Tuesday 8th December after 11:45am. New students and their families in Years 1-6 will be contacted when times and procedures are confirmed. Foundation 2021 will not visit on this day as previously planned.

Foundation 2021

These are scheduled for 24th November and the 1st December. At this stage we will not have a third visit on the whole school orientation day.

An email to all the Foundation 2021 families will be sent next week.

The format will be different as we are restricted to a maximum of 10 students per visit. These will be 45 minutes visits which allow us to clean before the next group. No adults will be permitted inside the school. Information regarding a short session for parents at one of these visits will be communicated with parents. This session will take place outside (weather permitting).

Building Update

Conclusion

We hope that with the easing of restrictions masses will resume on a weekend by Christmas. There are many different outdoor options, but each parish has their own challenges.

Last Sunday (1st November) was All Saints Day and Monday (2nd November) was All Souls Day. November is a special time to pray for our loved ones whom have died.
