Year 9 Dance Hip Hop Workshop

Dance elective class

Last week, our Year 9 Dance elective class took part in a Hip Hop workshop here at the College led by renowned dancer and Dancing with the Stars performers and choreographer, Jarryd Byrne. Jarryd is originally from Wagga and regularly brings his expertise and passion for dance back to the Riverina with his Fit2Move company. The girls were lucky enough to participate in a practical workshop with him where he highlighted the importance of strength and cardiovascular fitness as a dancer. The class were put through their paces in some strength based exercises designed to improve their form and technique. The students also developed skills in popular dance when they learnt choreography for a dance sequence. Hip Hop is an umbrella term for many different popular dance styles and so our dancers incorporated various styles, such as the Charleston, into the choreography they learnt. The Dance class enjoyed learning from an expert in the field and gained valuable knowledge and skills from their time with Jarryd. We will certainly be having him back in 2021.
