Maths Angles and Corners with Mr Nguyen.

Happy lunar new year!!!

As I am writing this, we have just completed week 4 with a short online learning period for three days and back to normal on Thursday and Friday.

Year 7-8

Beginning with this fantastic and fun group of learners, we would like to discuss our subject development in 2021. After 2020 with two long remote learning periods, our team has developed a program to focus on teaching and learning not only contents but also literacy and numeracy skills to apply in other subjects, real life, and future careers. This program is called MYLNS. This initiative provides intensive support to students at Baimbridge. Therefore, there will be more teachers in year 7 and 8 Maths classes. For example, they can see both Mr Churchill and Mr Zhang in a double period, providing massive maths and numeracy support. Therefore, students should not hesitate to ask more questions to keep enthusiastic teachers busy with their hunger to learn about numbers, fractions, percentages, algebra, geometry, probability, and so much more. Additionally, we are also providing our junior students more opportunities to challenge themselves through maths games or high order thinking solving problems.

Year 9-10

Our year 9 and 10 will continue to combine to learn in different class styles – numeracy, general and advanced. With numeracy classes, they will have chances to learn with Mr Doherty in the woodwork room! What an incredible idea to learn and apply their learning hands-on instantly! For advanced and general classes, our students will have different approaches and resources to

learn many topics. Some can work on textbook problems, while others might practice their understanding with problem-solving worksheets or colouring papers. It seems that someone is mastering letters and numbers games with Ms Taylor. Meanwhile, students in the advanced class with Mr Chen have already been working very hard towards their expectations, including moving into VCE levels.

Please remember that you can knock on our maths office door at any time if you have any questions. If you are at home, you can email teachers, not necessarily one who is teaching you. We are so happy to hear from you.

Year 11-12

At Baimbridge, we are providing several maths classes for VCE and VCAL students. Foundation maths and Year 12 Numeracy are mostly for VCAL, while general maths, further maths and maths methods are for VCE.

We would like to take this chance to remind our new VCE students about how important to have CAS calculators in hand so that they can learn and practise skills much faster in class and at home. Second-hand ones are more than appropriate, while the brand new ones can be priced at around $225.

Question of this issue:

· Use Tangram to create an ox (2021 is Ox year in the lunar calendar). Don’t know Tangram – ask any maths teachers!!!

· Show your solutions to Mr Tan or Mr Hong to claim your prizes.
