Report - Student Life Project

School is the place where young people come to delve into curriculum to help them prepare for a life of positive contribution and citizenship but, it is much more than this. School is also the place where young people forge friendships, build their social and emotional skills, engage in widely varying activities and test themselves in new experiences.

This year a small team of teachers has been working with the community on a project to describe and create the opportunity to enhance student life at Northcote High. Central to this has been building the capacity of our professional team through engagement in professional learning workshops focused on building strong relationships with students and families and how to use specific strategies to enhance social and emotional wellbeing in the classroom and our community.

The project has also provided us with an opportunity to capture student’s unique experiences at school and how we can celebrate student success and achievement.

One of the main intentions of this work has been to redesign the 2017 Connect (tutorial) program to include:

Specific year level themes

Teaching social and emotional skills

Philanthropic projects

Unique year level experiences

Families will be invited to an upcoming forum to provide feedback and ideas about the 2017 program.
