Diocesan Winter Trials

The weather could not stop these passionate students from playing the sports they love on Friday 12th March. After heavy rainfall all week, students from primary schools around the Diocese travelled to Inverell for the Winter Trials in the sports of Football/Soccer, Netball and Rugby League.

An array of talent was on display in all codes. Students played a number of games, showing off their elite abilities and skill throughout the day.

Rugby League players were privileged to have a number of selectors present on the day but in particular Ms Toni Palmer. Toni has been involved in Rugby League since 1981 and has dedicated 40 years to Primary sport in the Armidale Diocese, in not only Rugby League but also Athletics. Toni’s love for the game and the opportunity to offer a pathway like this for country kids drives her passion for kids sport.

Netball displayed some amazing agility and speed on the court which made the selectors job difficult to choose just 8 students to progress to the Armidale team. Football/Soccer was no different, with over 80 children trialing for girls and boys divisions, the competition was fierce.

Thank you to Mrs Trish Dal Santo for all her work behind the scenes to make the trial day a success and to all the individual conveners, team managers, selectors and referees. Everyone had a great day.

Congratulations to the following students selected to represent the Armidale Diocese in Bathurst at the Polding Winter Trials on Friday 23rd April, 2021.
