Meet the Leadership Team

We would like the opportunity to introduce you to the SCHS Leadership Team over the next few newsletters. Below is our Principal Class at Suzanne Cory High School.

Ms. Martha Goodridge-Kelly - Acting Principal

How long have you been working at SCHS?

Since 2013, I joined when the school had it's first VCE cohort as a Leading Teacher. My role was to set up VCE in the school.

What subjects do you teach if any?

I'm a Science teacher with specialism in Chemistry and Biology at senior level.

As a leader of SCHS, what are your key focuses?

My immediate focus is on making the change in leadership as smooth as possible. People naturally fear change and the uncertainly it brings, and after the past 12 months I think we've all had more than enough uncertainty in our lives. So I will be focusing on supporting those working with me to step up into their new roles as this will give stability to the school which will support teachers to do their job effectively and students to have the best possible school experience. Beyond the immediate transitional my focus will be on the provision of a holistic education that supports each student to achieve to their full potential. For young people to succeed they need not only work at the right level and high quality instruction but also a supportive learning environment in which to learn, and a sense of safety and connectedness in school. This is something we do well but we can always improve and, just as we ask our students to aspire to greater things, as a school we should also live out this value.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work I love to spend time with my family. My daughter is 9 years old and in grade 4 so playing games and taking her to all her activities takes up a lot of our time. We are a very active family so like to go on hikes, kayaking or bouldering. I enjoy running and cycling and will do a few half marathons each year, as well as the odd triathlon (though I'm not a fan of swimming). When all that tires me out I like to curl up with my cats and a good book.

Why do you love working at SCHS?

The people are what make SCHS such a great school; the students, the staff and the parent community combine to make a fantastic working environment. We talk a lot about the culture of the school and it's the people who shape that community, by supporting each other and helping everyone to be their best. We saw this clearly last year when we were all forced into lockdown, those social connections and support is what we all missed the most.
