Interschool Sport Update
Senior Girls Netball
The Senior Girls Netball teams played extremely well at the Division competition on Thursday May 4. The A team started really strong and finished 4th out of 9 teams. The B team showed great improvement throughout the day and finished 3rd out of 4 teams. Thanks to Fiona Ku for captaining the A team and Aria Sunga for captaining the B team. Well done on fantastic sportsmanship to all of the girls who represented Nossal.
Boys Netball
In Term 2, School Sport Victoria hosts an alternative sports round where the boys can compete in Interschool Netball and the girls can compete in AFL. This year both the Intermediate Boys and Senior Boys Netball teams were extremely strong sides that worked well as a team. The intermediate boys team were undefeated in the Casey North competition and the Senior boys also won the Division tournament.
Thank-you to Jasmine O’Brien and Fiona Ku for their assistant coaching with Ms Aarts and Ms Veale.
Good luck to both of the teams with their future training leading up to Regional finals on Thursday August 10!
Intermediate Boys Aussie Rules Football
As most people are aware Nossal does not have many regular Aussie Rules Football players, however it is amazing to see students signing up each year to give this sport a go in the local division competition (especially considering our win/loss ration). This year the Intermediate team was captained by Ish Malasinghe and Alvin Santhosh who did a fantastic job bringing the team together and inspiring the boys on the day. The Nossal team lead for the entire first game against Pakenham SC until the last 30 seconds and were unfortunately defeated by 3 points. The team also managed to have an amazing 2nd half against Gleneagles kicking 3 goals 2 behinds. Overall they kicked 5 goals for the day which seems to be a Nossal record, well done to the goal kickers: Deshan Fernando 3, Ish Malasinghe and John Avila.
Thanks to Mr Pegram for coaching and goal umpiring on the day.

Intermediate Girls Netball
A-Team
On May 15, the Intermediate Girls Netball team headed down to the Doveton courts for a day full of enjoyment, laughter and intense netball games. We were accompanied by Mrs Engler and students Fiona and Jasmine, who did an amazing job sparing their time to coach and train both teams for the competition. The A-team played a total of six games with some of the rival teams coming from sports academies. The matches were quite tough and close, however, we all gave it our best until the very end and had an enjoyable time. We would like to give a special thank you to Mrs Engler, Fiona and Jasmine for all their support!
On another note:
Why did Cinderella get kicked out of the netball team?
...... Because she kept running away from the ball!

B-Team
On May 15, the Intermediate Girls Netball B-Team also headed to Doveton to play in the Casey North competition. The group of B-Teams were separated into 2 pools. The NHS B Team won all 3 of their games in the pool against Doveton SC, Pakenham SC and Gleneagles SC which meant we made it in to the finals against Berwick SC. It was a very close game with Berwick only winning by 3 points, making Nossal 2nd overall. We should all be proud of ourselves as we did our best and gave it a 100%. We would especially like to thank our coaches Fiona, Jasmine and Mrs Engler for encouraging & training us girls and for all the support!

Intermediate Boys Australian Rules Football
On Monday May 15, our Intermediate boys travelled out to Narre Warren to play football against some schools in the Casey division. Our recent past performances had not been good and the pressure was on to find something. That something came earlier than expected when against Pakenham HS we found ourselves some 8 points up with only minutes to go. Sadly for us, Pakenham lifted and scored two late goals to snatch victory from us at the death knell.
In the next round we played Gleneagles but this time we were outclassed and lost comfortably. Against Kambrya we started badly and were well behind at half time. But we rallied and actually outscored them in the second half, at one stage giving them the feeling that we might cause an unlikely upset. That wasn’t to be and eventually Kambrya was able to rally and hold off a fast finishing Nossal.
In our last game against Berwick we tried really hard but were outclassed by an excellent team full of very good players.
All in all it was a great day and the boys tried really hard right up until the final siren and once again represented Nossal with distinction. Well done to all the boys and special thanks to Mrs Aarts for organizing the team and running the training sessions leading up to the games.
