FACTION ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Yesterday we held our Faction Athletics Carnival and it turned out to be an amazing day! We were hoping for a fine day and the weather was beautiful. It was wonderful to see all of the children trying their best to improve their times and earn points for their faction. All of the children from Pre-Primary to Year 6 must be congratulated for their efforts, team work and cheering. In the end, after a close fought battle Lima (Red) was our winning faction for 2017 with Sienna (Blue) in second.

1st        Lima (Red)             1188

2nd      Sienna (Blue)        1115

3rd       Aquino (Green)    1028

4th       Calaroga (Gold)    1004

I would like to thank all of the parents and teachers who helped throughout the day. Without your support the day would not have run so smoothly. I would also like to thank the Wellness Ministry who did a fantastic job helping in their bays and supporting wherever they were needed.

Interschool Athletics Carnival

Some of our athletes will compete in the CPSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival. This will be held on Friday 27th of October at the State Athletics Track. Permission slips and details about morning training will be given out in week 1 to the children who have been selected.

Accountability

VOLUNTEER WORKSHOP AND CODE OF CONDUCT

To assist with school based events, please ensure that both of these have been completed.

1. Complete the Volunteer Workshop

2. Read and Sign the Code of Conduct which is new in 2017.

It is a requirement that not only the Parent Volunteer Workshop has been completed, but the school based Code of Conduct has been signed and returned to the office.

Copies of the Code of Conduct are available from the front office.

VISITING THE SCHOOL - NEW SIGN IN PROCEDURES

An iPad is now available for entering the school during school hours. This replaces the sign in book. Please follow these procedures:

  • Sign in and receive a Lanyard or Exit Card
  • Enter the school
  • Sign out and return the Lanyard

All visitors to the school must sign in i.e. Parents dropping things off, Parents picking up students, Volunteers helping Canteen or Class, Students arriving late,  Maintenance workers etc.

PROLONGED ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL OF A STUDENT DURING SCHOOL TERM

There is an approval procedure that must be followed if you are taking your children out of school for several days.

  • Letter or email must be sent to the Principal and Teacher advising the school of the circumstances of the absence.
  • School then formally approves the absence with a letter sent to Parents.

It is important to note that the Education Act states that all children need to be at school at all times during the school year.

Prolonged absences should only be taken if it is essential for illness, pastoral and family reasons. In this instance it is a requirement that parents provide a valid explanation, in writing, for children’s

non-attendance at school.

It is also important to note that prolonged absence from school will impact on children’s learning.

Discipleship

FEAST OF ST MATTHEW - 21 SEPTEMBER

Matthew must have been surprised when Jesus walked up to him and said, “Follow me.” He probably fell off the stool in his customs booth!

Matthew, also known as Levi, was a tax collector in the town of Capernaum. Most tax collectors were hated by the Jews because they worked for the Romans, who had conquered the land. A tax collector could use his position honestly or dishonestly. The temptation to use the position to become rich was great. Now do you think the choice of Matthew was surprising? Yet Jesus chose a tax collector to follow him, to learn from him, and to go out and spread the Good News to others.

The call from Jesus was more powerful than the call of wealth. Matthew left his work as tax collector. He invited Jesus to a dinner where other tax collectors (publicans) and sinners were gathered. The Pharisees were upset when they saw this, and they said to the disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus heard them and replied, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, `I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous, but sinners.” (See Matthew 9:9–13.)

We know nothing other than that about Matthew from the Scriptures, but we do know that Matthew preached the Good News of Christ, and at least part of the Gospel attributed to him was first written for the Jewish converts in Palestine. There is some uncertainty about where Matthew preached and where and how he died. Some say Matthew went to Persia; some say Syria and Greece, while others say Ethiopia. Yet we can learn much from Matthew. He was a man who knew quite well the power of money. He knew the comfort it could ensure, the recreation it could buy, the luxury it could provide. But he was wise enough to know what it could not do. Money could never give him that sense of peace deep inside. It could never befriend him when he was lonely or give him the strength and courage to go on when all else seemed lost. Money could never buy him forgiveness or love. But the love of Christ could do all this and more.

POPE FRANCIS AND THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL

"We do well to keep in mind the early Christians and our many brothers and sisters throughout history who were filled with joy, unflagging courage and zeal in proclaiming the Gospel. (Evangelii Gaudium...The Joy of the Gospel... #263).
