St John Cadets

Who we are

St John is part of a large family that is found all over the world. This family dates back to over 900 years ago to the knights in Jerusalem. This large international organisation is today known as The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. Today, St John Ambulance Australia is a leading provider of youth development programs and opportunities for young people aged 8 to 25 years. We provide young people with opportunities to learn new skills, participate in exciting activities, meet new people and have fun! You will learn about first aid, leadership and how you can help others. St John currently has over 2,500 Cadets and 500 Juniors, plus a great group of young people involved in progressing important ideas in the organisation though youth advisory networks!  St John aims to:

  • inspire a common vision for young people across St John
  • support young people through important transitions both in St John and in their life
  • acknowledge the different needs of young people at different developmental stages
  • design and deliver age appropriate services.

A great loss

It is with much sadness that we have to report the loss of John Alexander who led the Cecil Hills High School St John Cadet’s group with his wife Rhonda. The Cadets loved and respected John and attended his funeral recently.

Together, John and Rhonda demonstrated the benefits of belonging to a volunteer organisation - the friendships that can form, the benefits of giving time to help others, learning new skills, and wearing a great uniform with pride and most of all, having fun! John will be sadly missed.

St John Cadets here at Cecil

The St John Cadets and Rhonda will continue to hold the St John Cadet meetings every Thursday and hope to build the numbers of those who come along and continue the wonderful work they do.

Any enquiries about joining up, please see Mrs Green, our Teacher Librarian.
