Theatre Enrichment

Year 12 Drama

 by Sabrina Joseph, Year 12

Our Year 12 Drama class got the opportunity to participate in Belvoir Street Theatre’s Theatre Enrichment Program early this November. This program is designed to provide students with the confidence, language and tools to describe and evaluate a text in performance as well as expose students to the creative aspect of performing and constructing a production.

Our strong and enthusiastic class worked collaboratively in the pre- and post-show during Belvoir’s trained educators and artists generous visit to our school. They conducted in-depth and detailed workshops which allowed for our class to strengthen and enrich our understanding of texts in performance through developing our skills in the making of theatre. We learnt about the different elements of production which encapsulated dialogue, stage action, set and costume and were able to enact, direct and design scenes. We ultimately gained valuable insights into the process of creating a viable and enjoyable performance.

We were also fortunate to attend a live matinee of Lally Katz’s evocative and eye-opening play, Atlantis at Belvoir Street Theatre. They showcased a flawless performance whilst captivating the audience through the utilisation of an incredible set, costumes, lighting and sound. We are pleased to say that we have absorbed so much from this successful and fulfilled opportunity.

A genuine thank you to Belvoir who have provided us with an invaluable experience. Our curiosity for the performing arts has turned into a passion and we appreciate and look forward to applying the priceless knowledge and skills taught to assist us in our learning and embed in the future.
