Inaugural Trades Fit Expo

Monday, May 23 saw a select group of year 9 & 10 students attend the inaugural The Trades Fit - young women in trades and tech expo hosted by the department of education and training. The expo showcased employment options within the trades and tech industries, with interactive displays set up for students to experience what these careers could be.

The expo introduced female students in years 9 and 10 to career pathways in traditionally male-dominated industries and provided information about how they can pursue exciting career opportunities in these fields.

Health Care and Social Assistance

This is Australia's largest and fastest-growing industry, employing over 1.5 million people. Melbourne ADF Careers Fair

Dates: Friday 23rd-25th June 2022

Defence Force Recruiting will be hosting an ADF Careers Fair in late June here in Melbourne.

This is your opportunity to gain firsthand experience with some of Defence's advanced equipment and learn about the careers available in the Navy, Army and Air Force. 

What can you expect on the day?

  • Navy, Army & Air Force equipment, vehicles and demonstrations
  • Experienced ADF Personnel to chat to about all your career questions
  • An Infantry Weapons display
  • Simulators and Virtual Reality

HEADSTART Apprentices and Trainees – Term 2 2022

 

This term has seen 2 students from KSC commencing their School Based Apprenticeships (SBAT’s) as part of their HEADSTART Pathway.

 

Jackson Williams – Year 10, Banksia Campus studying Certificate III in Carpentry working with RA Paul Building Services

Jackson applied for the HEADSTART program as he commenced Year 10. He knew he wanted a career as a tradesman but was unsure which trade would suit him best, he expressed an interest in carpentry, bricklaying and electrical and was particularly enjoying Project Design at school, (working with timber). Jackson started a work experience placement during Term 1 with R. A. Paul Building Services who specialise in house renovations, this gave him the opportunity to carry out a variety of tasks including, bricklaying, painting, plastering and carpentry. Jackson quickly fitted in on site with his team mates who were supportive and praised him for his excellent work ethic. He was signed up as a school based apprentice in May and will work 2 days per week attending Chisholm TAFE to study his Certificate III in Carpentry. Congratulations Jackson!

 

Omaid Farhad – Year 11, Acacia Campus studying Certificate III in Electrotechnology 

working with BM Data Electrical

Omaid was very focused in Year 10 during his course counselling appointment, and knew his chosen pathway was to become a qualified Electrician. He applied for the HEADSTART program and started his journey by enrolling into the VETDSS Cert II in Electrotechnology. He commenced a workplace trial with BM Data Electrical in Term 1, 2022 and quickly impressed the employer with his level of maturity, work readiness and reliability. He was offered a school based apprenticeship and has become a valued member of a very busy team. The company have just secured the re-cabling contract with Victoria Police with work guaranteed for the foreseeable future, something Omaid is delighted to be part of. Well done Omaid you have made a wonderful start on your chosen career. Omaid will study his Cert III in Electrotechnology with Chisholm TAFE.
