Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

I cannot believe that we are almost at the end of Term One 2022. It has been a very busy term with a lot of learning and opportunities jammed in.

Thank you to all families for your ongoing support this term. Negotiating restrictions, accepting RAT testing, and monitoring for COVID have now become somewhat second nature. However, it is still an ever-evolving space that we will work through together as we progress through this year and the years in the future. It is important that we look out for all in our school community, and if your child is unwell, they will be required to stay home.

We will be breaking for the Easter holidays at the end of next week. This is a wonderful time that I hope you all celebrate with family and friends. Easter is when we reflect on the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us. He died to allow us to live and have a closer relationship with God. Understanding and reflecting on Jesus’s death and resurrection is a key point of our Christian beliefs. Therefore, it is important to be at Church and strengthen our connection with our faith. Our Catholic Church in Wee Waa, St Andrew’s, will be open and holding special Easter services. Please note that details of these services can be found in our Church’s bulletin, which will be communicated via Compass this weekend.

The last day of the school holidays is ANZAC day on 25 April. Traditionally, we will have our School Captains reading and students marching before the service. We will communicate further information via Compass next week.

I would like us all to wish Nate Dewson, our School Captain and Stage 3 student, all of the best as he competes in the NSW Primary School Swimming Championships next Monday and Tuesday. He will be representing Polding (Northern NSW Catholic Schools) at this event. We will be supporting Nate from school and cheering him on as we watch the live stream next week.

Student Progress Meetings

Just a reminder that Student Progress Meetings will be held next Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 April. These meetings are a great opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher and get an update on where your child is up to and how they are performing this term. Please note that bookings are to be made via Compass and close at midnight on Sunday 3 April. Please see the Learning Gallery section for further information.

Easter Hat Parade & Raffle

Our Junior Joeys have recently met, and they wanted to bring back an old favourite here at St Joseph’s. So it’s time to get eggcited about the 2022 Easter Hat Parade!

This year it will be held on Friday 8 April, starting at 9:20 am (last day of term). Students are invited to showcase their easter hat creations. All are welcome to attend to watch this parade and join in the festivities.

There will be prizes awarded for Tallest Hat, Best Religious Theme, Best Easter Theme and Most Creative. We will also have some special judges on the day.

Following our Easter Hat Parade, we would like to hold a small raffle to help make it even more special. Students will be able to purchase tickets from their Leader of Learning before the event for $1 each.

Therefore, we request that families please bring in a small Easter gift (Easter eggs etc.) to be put together into baskets as prizes on the day. The more eggs we have donated, the more prizes are available for children to win! Easter Eggs/Gifts can be dropped into the school office anytime between now and Thursday 7 April.

Thank you for supporting our Junior Joeys initiative, and have fun creating your Easter hats!

Cross Country

This year all students in Years 1 - 6 will participate in our school’s Cross Country on Wednesday, 27 April, at Cook Oval. Kindergarten students will participate in a fun run at school.

Students will be required to be dropped out at Cook Oval by either a parent/carer or their usual bus (we have organised this with Forrest Coachlines).

It will be exciting to see our school families out at Cook Oval cheering on all of our students.

Please also note that we will have a Hot Dog Day instead of the usual Canteen. Further information has been communicated today via Compass.

Mother’s Day Celebrations

We will be holding a special celebration for our Mothers/carers next term on Thursday 5 May. The day will start at 8:00 am with a morning coffee and muffin at school, followed by our traditional Mother’s Day stall and a special Mother’s Day Liturgy in the afternoon. Please note that we will communicate an RSVP form via Compass. Further information will be available early next term.

Have a great weekend.

God Bless,

Alistair Stewart
