Week 2 Update

Under some trying weather and field conditions, the Winter Season finally got underway. From all reports and what I was able to witness, all teams put in a great effort and fought hard until the end. Overwhelmingly, the results across the codes favored St Patrick’s College with only a few losses recorded. We now set our sights on Round 2 and look to build on our performances. Well done to the Prep First XV who have made improvements in leaps and bounds already this season. Pushing St Augustine’s College all the way to the final whistle, before going down in a heart breaker 7-5. St Augustine’s have traditionally been very difficult opposition for the St Patrick’s College Junior School. It was great to see us give a little back. Keep up the great play boys!

A reminder to all boys and families to look at the Junior Fixtures and Cancellations page each week for the Junior School Draw. With all the wet weather and poor field conditions and the fact that COVID-19 is still around, there are significant changes each week to the draft draw. All changes and updates will be reflected on the Fixtures and Cancellations page and not in the draft draw. Please see the diagram for the location on Team App of the weekly draw information.

It is undeniable that the boys in the Junior School are very talented. We are privileged to see this every day, whether it be in the classroom, art room, during a singing practice or on the sporting field.  However, many of our boys also excel in endeavours outside the College in a range of different pursuits. Dante Barbanera is one such student.

During the Term 1 break, Dante competed and won Gold in a major Jiu-Jitsu event. He competed in the annual Central Coast BJJ Open and won all his GI fights, winning the Gold in his belt and weight division. Dante has since moved on to compete in another local competition coming away with another Gold and Silver medal against some very strong competition and higher-ranking belts. Dante’s dream is to one day represent Australia at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in Abu Dhabi. By the looks of it, he is well on his way. I know the St Patrick’s College community will join me in congratulating Dante on his achievements and wish him every success for the future.

Unfortunately, the weather over the weekend made it necessary to cancel the Junior School Supporters’ Day. I know that the players of both First XI Football and First XV Rugby were very disappointed, as no doubt were the boys in the Junior School. Currently we are looking into opportunities that may exist for the Junior School to support the codes. We will keep you informed of any decision or opportunities as they arise.

Finally, I would like to wish all the mothers and mother figures of our College community a very happy Mother’s Day this Sunday. I hope you all get to rest and relax and are well looked after this weekend.
