Parent Teacher Student Conversation (PTSC)
On Tuesday 3rd May we had our first round of scheduled PTSCs. These were held online, using the same process we implemented in 2021.
The conversations were a great opportunity to share work samples, reflect and discuss recent results published on Compass (Learning Tasks) while discussing opportunities for growth and continued improvement for the remainder of the term and as a staff we found these to be very valuable.
Parent involvement with learning is an important contributor to academic achievement. John Hattie discusses in his book ‘Visible learning’, that studies show that parent involvement has the strongest impact when ‘relating to parental aspirations and expectations and when parents take an active approach in learning’.
PTSC’s offer a great opportunity for these conversations to take place. As always, we seek avenues for feedback from our staff, parents and students regarding our processes. We will be sending out a short survey to a random sample of families, who both attended and who were unable to attend the event, to seek feedback on how we can ensure the PTSCs are as valuable and assessable as possible.
Assessment
Semester 1 examinations are taking place in the upcoming weeks.
Week 6 – Year 10 and 11 exams (30th May – 3rd June)
Week 7 – Year 7, 8 and 9 exams (6th June – 10th June)
Year 12 practice exams take place during week 1 of the upcoming holidays.
Exam timetables are in the process of being published with the senior exam timetables available on Compass, having been published by Ms. Every.
Exams offer a great opportunity to be formative, in that they allow us to know and respond to the effectiveness of student learning, individually and by cohort as educators, students and parents.
Exams also ensure that students are aware of the assessment process and learn how to effectively study in preparation for senior schooling. We encourage our students to revise their semesters learning at school and at home, so as to achieve results that best reflect their understanding of key knowledge and skills.
Year 7 and 9 students will begin their NAPLAN testing next week. All NAPLAN tests are online, with students completing adaptive tests. Mr. Ross has posted further information on Compass.
