Lion Library

Library Visit

On Thursday 29 March, Ngalaya educators came together at our school to exchange ideas and to celebrate student achievements. The first Ngalaya (Aboriginal education network) for 2022, organised by our Teacher-Librarian Samira Chami, took place in the Lion Library with members of our community including Aunty Clair, Uncle Neil, Kerrie Beeby our NSW Department of Education Director Educational Leadership, and staff from various primary and secondary schools across Northern Sydney.

Special thanks to Gordon West Public School, Killara Public School and our very own brilliant Aboriginal Studies students for their inspirational presentations. Thank you to Ms Barovs as the classroom teacher for these amazing students.

Ngalaya' was launched at Killara High School with a yarn about Aboriginal Education by like-minded people from a range of primary and secondary schools in the Northern Sydney region. Ngalaya is a Sydney language word recorded in the notebooks of William Dawes, which means "ally, friend in battle". We intend to work closely together to strengthen student and teacher understanding of First Nations peoples, local Country and culture.

We thank Ms Chami for initiating and strengthening this initiative.
