Principal's Report

“Yesterday is but today’s memory…”  Khalil Gibran

This is our last newsletter for the year and it is amazing how quickly time has flown.  We have our last day of timetabled classes on Thursday December 19th and will offer supervision on Friday the 20th until 11:30am.

Our Presentation Night on Thursday December 12th will be held once again in the gym and begin at 7pm with an anticipated run time of 90 minutes.

Our students are learning right up until the very end and it is great to see such positive engagement.  Semester 2 reports will be available on December 20th with a Compass notification sent out to parents as a reminder.  We have Orientation Day on Tuesday December 10th where we will welcome 190 Year 7 students to the Beaumaris Secondary College community.

I have visited our 4 government primary schools with current Year 7 students to answer any questions that our incoming students may have.  It was a delight to have our current students share their experiences.  Deb Kirk and Dilek Yucel have also run a supported transition program for 25 students who require a bit more support to settle into secondary schooling.

The colder weather has not hindered the myriad of excursions and activities our students have participated in over the past month.  In particular, the Year 8 snorkelling excursion to Rickett’s Point was no longer an outdoor water based activity instead students looked the environmental sustainability of our beaches using the Beaumaris Lifesaving club indoor spaces.  Our Year 7 Survivor Challenge is being held at the beach as I write this report.   We also had a very enthusiastic group of 39 students and 12 parents represent the college in the Great Victorian Bike Ride which was again a great success.  Thank you to Sarah Keating, Beth Cain and Tristan Ross-Brewin for their leading of this great event.

Our OzChild Wishing Tree Appeal for 2019 has been tremendous.  Our families generosity is extensive and demonstrated by the number of gifts under the tree shown below.

Alpine School

We are delighted to announce that we have our first group of Year 9 students who will be attending the Alpine School in 2020 Term 2- Mia McCormack, Lachlan Kelly, Mia Osler and the last student is still to be confirmed as he was away.  They are going to begin their orientation in Term 1 for a Term 2 start.

President’s Cup

We are excited to announce that we will 40 of our golfers going to the President’s Cup at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.  These students were involved in golf as a sports choice over the year.  It was through our strong link with RMGC that we were able to secure this unique opportunity for our students.

Tree Maintenance

We have had a tree audit completed which has identified high, medium and low priority works on a number of trees on the grounds. Tree works will be completed on the following dates: Tuesday 7th January, Thursday 9th January & Saturday 11th January.

The high priority works include removing dead wood branches from a number of large gum trees.
