Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Over the remaining six weeks of the school year, the newsletter will feature artworks by St Joseph's students entered into the Christmas Story Art Exhibition and Competition. Through art and word, these students have given personal and spiritual expression to the scripture stories that form our Christian narrative about the birth of Jesus and related events.

This week's Christmas Story feature artwork is:

The Scene Under the Star

Neála C

Year Five

My artwork was inspired by the scripture, ‘The Birth of Jesus and the Visit of the Magi’ Matthew 1:18-25. I have drawn the well-known star that guided Mary, Joseph, the Magi and shepherds to show that the presence of God is with them. There are also many smaller stars to represent the children of God, the children God watches over. I believe that God is always with you, to guide you through the ups and downs of your life. Whenever I’m upset or lonely, I know that God will always be with me.

I used bright colours on the Magi to show their spark of delight to see the new born Son of God. I drew the shepherd carrying a newborn sheep to give the feeling of love, care and empathy. Jesus, Mary and Joseph all have a halo to show their holiness in this scene under the star.

When I look at my artwork, I get a joyous feeling that God is with me andI hope you do too.The message I’m trying to deliver in my artwork is that God will always be with us, no matter what.

I invite you to view the Catholic Education Office article and the interactive video of the exhibition and opening click here . The following is included in the article,

A special congratulations to St Joseph's Bulli– the only school to have all six of their school's entries into the CEDoW competition selected for the exhibition. Creative Arts teacher at the school, Paola Birac , said the students had worked hard to achieve this success.

“I think the key to success is to begin by really getting the students to engage with the Scriptures, and figure out what the message is and how they want to respond to it. The next part is to provide the materials that they feel most skilled in. The students at St Joseph's love art,” she said.

For all things at St Joseph’s, give thanks!
